With the latest League of Legends dev update, Riot Games announced one of the biggest changes coming to the game in a long time: Role Quests. As with every new mechanic introduction, players will have endless questions. So, to put your minds at ease, here's a guide at everything related to the new LoL Role Quests, including how they work and the rewards you stand to gain in every role.

What Are Role Quests in League of Legends?

League of Legends is getting a whole slew of changes in 2026, but perhaps none are more important than the new Role Quests. Essentially, these work the same way Jungle pet companions or Support item upgrades currently work.  Starting in January 2026, each role will get a different quest during your LoL games, and completing these will give you unique and powerful rewards.

How Do I Progress My Role Quest?

The way you progress your quest is simple. Killing minions or champions, and securing towers, neutral objectives, or turret plates all contribute to your Role Quest's progress.

Here's the catch, though: doing any of these things in your assigned lane will make your progress faster towards completing your Role Quest.

Role Quests Rewards: What Does Each Role Get?

The rewards for completing your Role Quest are unique to your assigned role (or position) in the game. Here's what each role stands to gain:

  • Top Lane:
    • Upon completing your Top Lane Role Quest, players will earn the Teleport Summoner Spell for free, in addition to your two selected Summoner Spells. If you already had Teleport, then your Teleport spell will grow stronger, granting you a large shield on arrival at your destination.
    • Additionally, Top Laners will get a bunch of bonus XP upon completing their Role Quest, plus additional XP from future sources, and they will have their level cap increased to level 20.
  • Jungle:
    • Completing your quest will give Jungle players improved Smites usable on enemy champions (like before).
    • Wondering what's new? Well, Junglers will also earn additional gold and experience from large monsters after finishing their quest, plus additional movement speed in the Jungle.
  • Mid Lane:
    • Finishing your Mid Lane Role Quest will reward you with a free Tier-3 Boots upgrade (similar to the ones from Feats of Strength), as well as a faster recall.
  • Bottom Lane:
    • Completing the Role Quest will grant ADCs a large sum of gold, plus increased gold from farming minions, and securing champion kills and assists.
    • ADC players will also earn an additional item slot (7 items) when completing their quest.
  • Support:
    • Support items will be upgraded as a Role Quest reward (like before).
    • Support players will also earn a new item slot exclusively for Control Wards, plus Control Wards will be made cheaper for them. Completing your Role Quest will also earn you additional passive gold generation over time.

*Note that Riot has stated that they are purposely making Role Quest rewards better for Top Lane and Bottom Lane, as they are "currently the two weakest" roles.

When Do Role Quests Arrive to LoL?

Role Quests will prove an exciting addition to League of Legends, allowing players to gain additional agency and strength in the late game. So, if you're eager to try out the new Role Quests, then don't worry, you won't have to wait long.

League of Legends Role Quests will officially hit the live servers on January 7th, 2026. If you don't want to wait that long, however, then you can test out the new rewards, along with all other new LoL changes, on the PBE as early as December 3rd!
