Ame Returns To Dota 2 Pro Play
Amidst the ongoing ESL Kuala Lumpur, the roster shuffle season is going strong in the Chinese Dota 2 scene. A recent surprise development in the region is the return of Wang "Ame" Chunyu, a legendary safelaner, to the professional Dota 2 scene.
The Chinese region is known for being one of the strongest regions in the professional Dota 2 scene. At the recent International 2023, two teams from the region secured a top-four finish at the prestigious tournament. However, a team from the region has been under fire lately for going through with the roster shuffle despite securing a direct invite ticket with a different roster.
The Announcement
Ame was one of the most legendary players in China. After finishing fifth at The International 2022, he took a year off to focus on his personal life and streaming. However, as The International 2023 drew closer, the legendary player again started to show his reignited passion for the game.
With ESL One Kuala Lumpur officially kicking off the professional Dota 2 season for 2024, Ame has stepped back into the ring. However, his return came with a twist.
For the first time since the start of his Dota 2 career, the player won’t be playing under LGD Gaming’s banner.
The player will be playing for an entirely different team, Xtreme Gaming. In Xtreme Gaming’s Weibo statement, the negotiation to acquire Ame on their Dota 2 roster was made by respecting the player’s wishes.
Return of More Legendary Players?
As for now, Xtreme Gaming has only Ame and Ding "Dy" Cong on their Dota 2 roster. However, the signing of the legendary safelaner could indicate that the team is going all out to become one of the strongest teams in their region and hopefully become a contender at this year’s International.
There were also rumours that his former teammates, Lu "Somnus" Yao and Yang "Chalice" Shenyi, would join Ame at Xtreme Gaming. The two have recently parted ways with their teams in the last month.
A Legendary Player
Before his transfer to XG, the player played a crucial part in LGD Gaming’s success. During his time on the team, he competed in five TIs representing them and finished in the top five each time. Moreover, he made it to the TI grandfinals twice during those five times. However, his efforts to immortalize his name met a crushing defeat, as he had to take the runner-up place twice.
The player decided to take a break from playing competitively after his another failed run at The International 2023, However, during his downtime, he represented his country at the 19th Asian Games, where he took home the trophy. As a result, his city’s fire department hosted a reception celebrating his victory.
