Aui_2000 on coaching Team Falcons: "It's been really easy for me"
Team Falcons continues dominating the Dota 2 scene. The MENA squad is undefeated in the second stage of DreamLeague Season 22 and champions of BetBoom Dacha Dubai.
After taking down Aurora, Falcon's coach and the only person in history to win The International as both a player and coach Kurtis "Aui_2000" Ling sat down for a quick post-game interview.
Aui_2000: "It's just about finding a good way for us to build a foundation"
Falcons have been on a roll since their inception, winning every tournament qualifier and taking down juggernauts in the scene such as Team Liquid, BetBoom Team, and Xtreme Gaming with ease.
When asked if the team was ever weak in any area or required a lot of work, Kurtis said it's been mostly about improving the team's chemistry.
"The team already plays great at KL, so they're already a pretty good team. It's just about finding a good way for us to build a foundation together so we have good fundamentals and then it clicked really easily."
Coaching in Dota 2 is an evolving role, some coaches focus on improving a team's mentality, while others have a more direct impact, such as picking the best drafts and item builds.
For Team Falcons, most of Aui_2000's role has been focusing on studying their opponents and providing the players with the needed info to beat them, "Honestly I've been watching a lot of replays and doing prep because I think a lot of stuff we want to cover in fundamentals we did in BetBoom Dacha and the patch is sort of similar so it's been really easy for me."
Team Falcons is composed of several members from Tundra Esports
Joining Team Falcons reunites Aui_2000 with his former players from Tundra Esports, mainly Oliver "skiter" Lepko and Jingjun "Sneyking" Wu.
When asked if the two players have changed on the new team, Kurtis said it's business as usual for Sneyking, "I think Sneyking's role has been pretty similar, he's drafting same as Tundra and taking responsibility for that."
The same can't be said for the team's carry, as Skiter is focusing on leading the team, due to the relatively young age of the other two core players.
" I think Skitter has had to take up more of a leadership role cuz on Tundra our leadership structure was different to this team and on this team, he has like two young kids and he's more on the veteran side so I think he's had to do some work in that regard."
Falcons are the only team at DreamLeague guaranteed to make it to the Upper Bracket finals. Time will tell if their momentum bags them their second trophy of the year.
