Broodmother in Dota 2: Spinning Webs of Domination

Black Arachnia spent centuries beneath Mount Pyrotheos, raising millions of spiderlings in lava-carved tunnels. Treasure hunters trampled her young, so she surfaced to purge every intruder. The result is a hero who locks down ground with permanent webs, breeds an army on the fly, and relies on fast tempo to win before rivals scale. Broodmother fills several roles at once: carry, pusher, escape, and nuker. She attacks in melee, draws on an agility stat pool, and demands tight micro of spiderlings and web placement.

Ability Breakdown

Insatiable Hunger

This ultimate pushes Broodmother into a brief blood frenzy. For eight to fourteen seconds she gains up to seventy percent bonus base damage and one-hundred-percent lifesteal. Aghanim’s Shard stretches the duration and adds four-percent extra damage each second, letting her shred towers or dueling targets while healing through return fire.

Spin Web

Every twenty-seven seconds a charge appears that can place a twelve-hundred-radius web. Inside any web she moves as if hasted, turns quickly, regenerates health, and ignores terrain. Webs never expire, so a connected network soon blankets a lane and the adjoining jungle. Casting range becomes global when the new web touches an old one, which means Broodmother can chase or flee across half the map in moments.

Silken Bola

A fast projectile strikes from seven-hundred-fifty range, inflicting up to fifty-five percent slow and the same value in blind for six seconds. During that window any allied hero attack, including Broodmother’s own, deals bonus magic damage. The spell sets up kills on evasive supports and weakens carries that rely on right-click accuracy.

Spawn Spiderlings

The spell deals up to four-hundred-twenty magic damage and tags the target for twenty seconds. If the victim dies while marked, four to six spiderlings hatch and fight for forty seconds. Each cast stacks up to seven times, so layered throws against a tank can still yield a swarm once the hero finally falls. These fresh spiders farm camps, push waves, and amplify early pressure.

Spinner’s Snare

Aghanim’s Scepter grants this extra skill. Broodmother may stretch five invisible lines between webs, each nine-hundred units long. Any enemy hero who crosses a line suffers a quarter-second delay, then a three-second root, vision reveal, and a total of three hundred damage over time. The trigger also pings allies on the minimap. Snare turns your home turf into a no-go zone for smoke ganks.

Talents and Skill Build

At level ten most players take three additional simultaneous webs, giving room to spread across both lane and jungle. At fifteen extra spiderling health keeps the army alive through casual area damage. Level twenty splits between attack speed and turning Silken Bola into a four-hundred-radius burst; choose attack speed if you are the main carry, pick the area Bola when crowd control is lacking. Level twenty-five often finishes builds with a thirty-five-percent Bola improvement to slow and blind, though a reduction in base attack time during Insatiable Hunger can suit all-in physical builds.

For skills, open with Spin Web and alternate it with Spawn Spiderlings until both reach max rank. Grab Insatiable Hunger at six, then leave further points until webs and spiderlings are finished. High-ranked Dotabuff samples confirm this rhythm because early farm flows from spider production, not from self-buffed right-clicks.

Item Build

Starting (lane sustain and mana)

  • Tango, Healing Salve

  • Enchanted Mango, Clarity

  • Quelling Blade, Iron Branch

Early Game

  • Soul Ring: converts health to mana; regen from webs covers the cost.

  • Magic Wand: burst sustain in skirmishes.

  • Medallion of Courage: cheap armor shred for tower pushes.

Mid Game Power Spike

  • Orchid Malevolence: silence escape heroes, solve mana issues.

  • Aghanim’s Shard: ramps Hunger damage every second.

  • Black King Bar: ignore stuns and keep lifesteal active.

  • Solar Crest: replaces Medallion; buff allies or spiders.

Late Game Core

  • Assault Cuirass: armor aura for army, minus armor for structures.

  • Bloodthorn: upgraded Orchid—critical damage and True Strike.

  • Butterfly: evasion plus agility scales with Hunger.

  • Aghanim’s Scepter: unlock Spinner’s Snare for global vision traps.

Situational

  • Hand of Midas for greedy lanes

  • Diffusal Blade or Disperser for extra slow and dispel

  • Pipe of Insight to march through heavy magic damage

  • Abyssal Blade for reliable stun

Gameplay Strategy

Laning Phase

Place two webs at the first wave so one covers the creeps and a nearby small camp. Stay within silk where possible, because outside the network Broodmother walks like a creep. Cast Spawn Spiderlings on ranged creeps or poked opponents just before they die; the resulting spiderlings double as harassment and farming tools. Target ranged or low-armor heroes first because melee cores routinely carry damage block that blunts spider damage.

Mid-Game Map Control

Once the five-minute catapult wave hits, all the spiders-plus-siege damage melts the Tier 1. Afterward extend webs through the enemy jungle. Farming camps between waves denies opponents gold while boosting your own. Keep at least one spare web charge so you can leap gaps during a chase. Destroy an obsolete web before placing a fresh one if you fear losing an anchor section.

Team Fighting

Broodmother prefers skirmishes to full five-on-five clashes. She enters from flank angles, casts Orchid on a support, toggles Insatiable Hunger, and lifesteals through retaliation. If a drawn-out fight looms, use Spinner’s Snare first; the rooted enemy can neither blink nor smoke, buying time for allies to arrive. When enemies group around area spells, pull back and push a side lane instead.

Closing the Game

Your advantage peaks when spiderlings survive basic wave-clear. Gather allies after you take outer towers, then threaten high ground before opponents complete their own area items. Should they pick up Maelstrom, Dagon, or Radiance, shift lanes rather than forcing through fortified defenses. Quick objective trades win far more games than stalled sieges when playing a tempo hero.

Fighting Broodmother

Opponents keep her in check by buying early area damage such as Sand King’s Sand Storm or Lina’s Dragon Slave. Sentry wards and Dust reveal Broodmother when she slips behind trees or dives under towers. Strong wave-clear cores like Ember Spirit and Legion Commander reclaim farm even within webs. Crimson Guard absorbs the spider swarm’s hits during building defenses.

Practical Tips

Web connectivity matters. Always overlap new silk with the old so you can recast across distance. Use medallion-induced creep aggro to pull waves into webs for safe farming. Send weaker spiderites first against heroes with big nukes; baiting spells keeps sturdier spiderlings alive. Keep a hotkey group for webs so you see how many sit unused. Lifesteal against neutral creeps mid-fight to refresh health without backing out, and remember that a Medallion on Roshan plus Insatiable Hunger lets you solo the pit early.

Final Thoughts

Broodmother rewards preparation and constant pressure in Dota 2. She secures one slice of the map, out-farms anyone trapped nearby, and ends games before late-game area clears erase her brood. Master web placement, manage your spider groups, and press objectives as soon as the first tower falls. Proper execution turns every lane into fresh feeding ground for the children of Mount Pyrotheos.
