Dota 2 patch 7.33e nerfs the most contested heroes
Dota 2 patch 7.33e is out and it is the final balance patch for the New Frontiers update. The patch focuses on nerfing the most contested heroes at the Bali Major, in preparation for the upcoming Riyadh Masters.
Aside from the nerfs, the latest update also announced when the next Dota 2 update, patch 7.34, will be released. Dota 2 fans can expect a lot of changes to the game in the near future.
Dota 2 patch 7.33e nerfs 11 of the 12 most contested heroes at the Bali Major
The latest gameplay update aims to knock down a few of the most popular heroes a peg or two. Out of the 12 most contested heroes in the Bali Major, 11 of them received nerfs. Only Rubick managed to escape the nerf stick and make it through the patch notes unscathed.
Out of the 11 nerfed heroes, some were hit a lot harder than others. Morphling took a big hit to his Aghanim Scepter upgrade. In the previous patch, Morphling could steal up to 40% of a Universal hero's stats, which has been reduced to 15% in 7.33e. Timbersaw took several small nerfs as well, losing some movement speed, damage on Timber Chain, and durability from Reactive Armor. Medusa lost a significant chunk of her durability, with reduced base intelligence and intelligence gain as well.
Cores weren't the only heroes who got nerfed, as several supports are weaker now as well. Undying lost some health regeneration as well as the ability to save stunned allies with Tombstone (Allies must now choose to go into the Tombstone). Pugna's ultimate now restores half the mana it used to in previous patches, significantly hurting the hero's ability to become a mana battery for allies.
With all the nerfs to the meta heroes, we can expect a few new stars to take the spotlight in the upcoming few weeks, at least until we get patch 7.34.
Dota 2 patch 7.34 will come out in August
Valve released an update on the future of Dota 2 along with patch 7.33e. The next update and likely the main patch for The International 12 will be released in August, before the Regional Qualifiers.
While the exact date hasn't been announced, the Regional Qualifiers begin on August 17 for China and North America. It's likely the patch has been pushed to August in order to avoid conflict with the upcoming Riyadh Masters, which ends July 30.
Overall, this is a welcome update to the game, as the Bali Major saw a significant chunk of the hero pool ignored in favor of a handful of broken heroes. Here's hoping we see more draft variety in the upcoming few weeks.
