LNG Esports is still facing uncertainty as to whether their star mid-laner, Lee "Scout" Ye-chan, will be able to participate in the 2024 League of Legends World Championship. As detailed in our previous article, Scout is currently involved in a legal battle with his former team, EDward Gaming (EDG), over his transfer to LNG, which has escalated to a second trial.

The lawsuit resulted in a travel ban imposed on Scout, restricting him from leaving China, potentially keeping him from competing in the tournament’s Swiss stage in Berlin.

Key Developments from EDG Manager’s Livestream

On a recent livestream, EDG's manager shed more light on the situation, explaining that Scout’s travel ban was in effect long before it became public. According to the manager, LNG and the LPL only discovered the ban a few days ago, even though Scout received the information right after EDG lost the first trial earlier this year.

Additionally, the manager revealed that Scout’s agency contacted EDG two weeks ago, threatening to use public opinion against the team unless they agreed to negotiate. EDG dismissed this threat, stating that they would not be swayed by external pressure and would let the legal process play out.

The manager also criticized Scout’s agency, labeling it as “incompetent” and hinting at its controversial background. He emphasized that LNG and Scout himself are innocent, placing the responsibility squarely on the agency’s poor handling of the situation.

The shocking revelation came when he revealed that the predecessor for Scout's agency was none other than Griffin - an infamous former LCK organization/team that imploded in spectacular fashion due to mismanagement, alleged player threats, misrepresentation of players, coercion of players into one-sided contracts, and the eventual departure of their star talents and coach.

According to EDG's manager, Scout quietly held on to the information of his travel ban due to his agency assuring him that they would handle it - spoiler alert, they did not/have not. Moreover, EDG manager points to the convenient timing of the news hitting the public cycle, on the eve of EDG's 11th anniversary. In short, he points to an attempt to weaponize public opinion against EDG.

LNG's World Championship Outlook

With the travel ban still in place, LNG’s hopes of resolving the issue in time for Worlds appear bleak. The team does not have a substitute mid-laner, leaving them in a precarious position as the tournament approaches. LNG is relying on the LPL to mediate a solution, but as the manager indicated, the case will ultimately go to court.

Fans and analysts alike are concerned that Scout’s absence could drastically reduce LNG’s chances at Worlds, as they scramble to find a last-minute solution. However, EDG’s manager made it clear that, from EDG’s perspective, the legal process must take its course, regardless of public opinion or external pressure.
