EG Have Released Their Entire Dota 2 Roster
There have been several rumors online for a couple of weeks now and North American org Evil Geniuses confirmed last night that they are true: they have released their entire Dota 2 roster from the team.
EG has been a staple of NA Dota for over 7 years now and despite not lifting the Aegis of Champions at The International since 2015, they have consistently placed highly in both American and international tournaments so this did come as something of a surprise to long term fans of the team.
The news was delivered via EG’s official social media accounts including Twitter and Instagram. The first announcement came via a 3 minute video by Nicole LaPointe Jameson, EG’s CEO and was quickly followed by a “thank you” message to players Arteezy, Abed, Cr1t, bulba, Fly and their coach Nightfall..
While it was certainly rumored that EG would be leaving the world of Dota completely, Jameson did confirm that this is not the case. In fact, after so many years of completely dominating that NA scene, the org will be looking to appoint a South American roster. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how they are able to find their feet in a region that has really shown its teeth in the last year.
While no official statement or response has come from EG veterans Arteezy, Abed, Bulba or coach Nighfall, Fly and Cr1t did take to Twitter to post their responses. Both seemed a little subdued, as is to be expected from the news but there was love all round for the org.
Some fans have expressed concern that EG leaving the NA scene will mark the end of pro Dota in the region, the players seem to disagree. In his tweet, Cr1t wrote “...this is just the start of a new era for North American Dota”. Similarly, Fly chimed in to agree that “NA will bounce back”.
It’s good to see this optimistic approach from the NA players, particularly following the current drama with TSM and their attempts to distance the org from FTX after the crypto exchange filed for bankruptcy following “disappearing funds”. We can only hope that more NA orgs will step in to fill the role in the region!
Many fans are currently questioning where Arteezy will be heading next. He is certainly one of the most loyal Dota players in the scene, having played for EG consistently since 2016. In that time, he has never quite managed to reach the top of tree and lift the Aegis at TI. Despite this, he is a fan favorite and played a huge part in EG’s continuing success. It seems safe to say that any team he joins next will benefit from his experience and skill.
RTZ has yet to reveal anything about his next steps, although he famously took a bit of a step back from sharing his personal life with fans. It’s surely not the last fans will see of him, it’s just a question of which team and which region.
