Valve's decision to discontinue the Dota Pro Circuit for 2024 created a void in the Dota 2 professional scene. However, some tournament organisers, like ESL One, have stepped up to fill the vacancy left by Valve. Recently, Electronic Sports Broadcasting (ESB), a Peruvian tournament organiser, announced their intentions to host Liga 2024.

The organisers have experience in hosting Dota 2 tournaments. Recently, they were in charge of the 2023 DPC for the South American region. Liga 2024 will consist of three tournaments, with a 2 million USD total prize pool.

Some Details

ESB has announced their plans to host Liga 2024 on X (formerly known as Twitter). In a recent tweet, the organisers revealed that the tournament will consist of three tours, which will bring together the biggest teams from around the world. The tournament organisers also plan to introduce some new formats for the tournaments.

The first tour is set to take place in April. It will start on April 3rd through April 14th, featuring a 500,000 USD prize pool. The second tour, featuring the same amount of prize pool, is from July 24th to August 4th. The third and final tour will be from November 27th through December 6th, and the final tour will feature a million-dollar prize pool.

A New Dawn

ESB will share more details about their project in the coming days. With the absence of Valve from the Dota 2 professional scene, ESL has announced their plans to host Dota 2 tournaments throughout the years as a part of their ESL Pro Tour Season 2. While some organisations and tournament organisers are weighing their options about the Dota 2 professional scene, ESB and BetBoom have stepped up to take some of the weigh-off from ESL.

In their blog, Valve explained their decision to make Dota 2 more fun by letting third-party tournament organisers host the tournaments, and it seems Valve’s intentions are coming to fruition.

Moreover, the South American Dota 2 scene is one of the upcoming regions. Although the region had a disappointing early exit at The International 2023, they had shown tremendous growth for Dota 2 in recent years. New doors might open for them with ESB hosting Liga 2024 in the coming year.
