FAKER becomes first inductee into League of Legends Hall of Legends
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok will be the first inductee into the new League of Legends Hall of Legends. Announced earlier this year as a new effort by Riot to recognize and commemorate 14 years of competitive League of Legends as well as the hands that helped build this incredible esport dynasty.
The primary criteria for an inductee would be their ‘measured lasting impact left on the game, the sport, and the community,’ said Riot. With that said, there is no single name, player, or individual throughout League of Legend’s competitive lifespan that matches that criteria more than Faker.
With a career spanning over a decade, Faker has accumulated 10 LCK titles, 2 Mid-Season Invitational titles, and 4 World Championship titles.
A Celebration of All Things Faker
“Faker is truly the most iconic and influential figure in League of Legends and esports history. His name is synonymous with excellence in LoL esports, and he has rightfully earned his place as our very first Hall of Legends inductee” -John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games.
In honor of Faker, an in-game event will be held within the League of Legends client that will allow the celebration of all things Faker. Moreover, fans will be able to earn and purchase custom cosmetic items (cosmetics, collections, and Faker-themed skins) that commemorate his journey to the top.
An event pass will be included as well, taking players through a journey through Faker’s career – his highlights, pivotal moments, and more.
Mercedes-Benz Joins in the Celebration
In honor of the legendary player, Mercedes-Benz will also be providing two things: one for the community, and the other for the Unkillable Demon King himself. A dedicated art piece for Faker will be presented, ‘fusing reality with the world of League of Legends.’
Furthermore, it has been announced that it will feature details that highlight Faker’s greatest accomplishments in his career. For Faker himself, he will be awarded a custom Mercedes-AMG SL 63, making it his 4th car overall and 2nd Mercedes-Benz.
"While esports is gaining more momentum, we at Mercedes Benz are delighted to extend our role as the official automotive partner of all global League of Legends Esports events to the Hall of Legends. I am more than happy to honor Faker as the first ever member. We are convinced that the Hall of Legends marks the next step in our ongoing partnership with Riot Games after all previous successful community focused events and the jointly created traditions, such as the Championship Ring." - Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing and Sales.
