We are entering a new era of VALORANT.

2-time World Champion Ava “florescent” Eugene is shattering barriers as she becomes the first ever Game Changers player to make the transition to Tier 1 VALORANT. The Shopify Rebellion (SR) star is expected to join Apeks in VCT EMEA for the 2025 season. According to reports, she has successfully reached verbal agreement with the EMEA organization.

The move was first reported by Alejandro Gomis, esports journalist.

Apeks most recently won the VCT Ascension EMEA 2024 after falling just shy the year before, earning the year-long promotion to VCT EMEA. For her part, florescent just earned the MVP award for her performance in the VCT Game Changers Championship 2024, helping her team to a second consecutive championship title.

Apeks: Rebuild for the New Season

Following their promotion to VCT EMEA, Apeks immediately saw two of their talents poached by other VCT EMEA teams looking for a rebuild of their own. Dom “soulcas” Sulcas headed for Movistar KOI while Kajetan “kaajak” Haremski found his way immediately onto one of the most historic VCT rosters in Fnatic, serving as their newest and final recruit.

Hence, coming into the off-season, Apeks was in dire need to replenish their forces and florescent was among the players who trialed for the organization. Reportedly, she was one of the best players during the tryouts; an unsurprising feat considering her record over her 2 years of professional play in the Game Changers circuit.

Florescent: Will She Be the One to Pave the Way?

In a manner reminiscent of only a handful of players, florescent burst onto the scene in 2022 and immediately turned heads with her immense raw talent. During her half year tenure with Misfits Black, her performance was so impressive that she immediately earned a spot right after with the most decorated core of Version1 (formerly of Cloud9 White).

As part of Version1, the roster lifted 2 trophies, falling just shy to Evil Geniuses in Series S3. Shopify Rebellion then purchased the entire roster just a month after their finals. A month after that, the former Version1 roster lifted the 2023 Game Changers Championship, a first time feat for all five members. Florescent also won the MVP for that first victory, making her not only a 2-time champion, but also a 2-time international MVP.

Across her 2 year tenure with Version1 and Shopify Rebellion, florescent and co. won 5 of the 6 domestic titles. The Vietnamese-Canadian duelist also holds the record for the most kills in a series during an international Game Changers match, at 112 kills, in the Grand Finals of the 2023 World Championship against Team Liquid Brazil.

While many expected florescent’s IGL and Shopify Rebellion’s team captain Melanie “meL” Capone to be the first to break the barrier between, in the end, florescent proved that her talent was too bright to deny.
