Fnatic Eliminates KRU, Secures Playoffs Spot at VALORANT Champions 2024
On Day 9 of VALORANT Champions 2024, the final elimination games of the group stages took center stage, with only four teams fighting to keep their tournament hopes alive. In a highly anticipated showdown, Fnatic faced off against KRU Esports in a tense match that would determine the last playoff qualifier from Group A.
The match was a thrilling contest that went the distance, with all three maps being fiercely contested. KRU Esports started strong on their pick of Sunset, edging out Fnatic 13-11.
Despite this early setback, Fnatic quickly found their rhythm and displayed the prowess that has made them a dominant force in the EMEA region, they responded in kind on Haven, securing a 13-9 victory. The momentum was firmly in their favor as they moved into the decider map, Lotus, where they dismantled KRU Esports with a commanding 13-5 win.
Post-Match Talks:
Fnatic’s in-game leader, Jake "Boaster" Howlett, emphasized the team's collective effort in their victory, stating,
"We know what we're capable of when we're feeling ourselves. And I think, honestly, with our team, because everyone is so good, you don't need one person popping off consistently. It's like, you can almost take it in turns."
Looking ahead to the playoffs, Boaster expressed his desire to face G2 Esports, a team Fnatic has yet to encounter in an official match.
"If I was to choose, it would be G2. The reason why is because throughout the whole entire existence of Valorant, I don't think I've ever played them. And I think it will be a fun match. I've seen them at events ever since one of the Icelands, but I've never played them yet"
To close it out, Boaster also believes that Fnatic will be able to do well in this tournament:
"I'm not expecting anything. I'm just kind of going with the flow and going with the vibes. But yeah, I believe, I wouldn't be here if I didn't think that we could win this event and do well."
With this victory over KRU, Fnatic moves into the playoffs as the only number 1 seed from the regional leagues. While Gen.G have already been eliminated, the fates of Leviatan and EDward Gaming are yet to be known.
As they move forward, the team’s confidence and cohesion will be key assets in their pursuit of the championship title. All eyes will be on Fnatic as they aim to translate their group stage momentum into playoff success.
