G2 Esports completes a heroic reverse sweep after a 0-13 first map against Team Liquid in Group A’s opener series of BLAST Premier World Final.

Ancient, picked by Team Liquid, is G2’s second worse map in the last three months and quickly became a nightmare for the samurai. Keith "NAF" Markovic and his squad dominated on the CT side, consistently shutting down G2’s attempts to breach the bombsites.

Despite G2’s struggles, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov was the only player who posed any real threat, creating sporadic opportunities for his team. However, it wasn’t nearly enough, as the rest of G2’s lineup ended the map with single-digit kills, marking m0NESY’s first career 0-13. Just when it seemed like the series was slipping away, G2 staged a remarkable turnaround on Inferno.

The Samurai remained resilient

G2’s map pick turned into a tug-of-war in the first half, with both teams trading rounds to close it at a deadlock, 6-6. Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa were the standout performers, securing key multi-kills that repeatedly shifted momentum in their favor.

MalbsMd, in particular, bounced back significantly from a lackluster first map, where he managed just one kill. This time, he became a difference-maker, nearly securing an ace clutch in the 10th round on the A bombsite.

Despite the competitive start, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken’s squad faltered in the second half, failing to win a single round on their T side. G2’s stiff defense held firm, leaving Liquid empty-handed and unable to respond.

Reverse sweep completed

The decider map evened the series, making it anyone’s game to win. Mirage followed a similar pattern as the second map, remaining tightly contested with both teams clinging to their advantage. This time, however, Twistzz found himself carrying the weight alone as the rest of his team struggled to find their footing at the 6-6 mark.

In the second half, G2 dominated the offensive side, deploying a proactive playstyle that Liquid couldn’t contain. Their relentless pressure led to an unbroken streak of rounds, pushing Twistzz and his team to the elimination match and sealing G2’s reverse sweep.

Next up, G2 will face the winner of Team Vitality vs. Team Spirit for a shot at a direct ticket to the semifinals while Liquid goes against the loser.
