Heroic player caught using banned technology at ESL Pro League
At the ESL Pro League, Heroic found themselves in hot water after a player was caught using the banned Snap Tap technology during their opening match against Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP). Initially, Heroic secured a 13:10 victory on the first map, Ancient. However, the win was quickly overturned when it was discovered that one of their players had enabled Snap Tap, a feature available on the newest Razer keyboards.
Snap Tap allows players to switch directions instantly by prioritizing the last key pressed, bypassing the need to release the previous key. This provides a significant advantage in FPS games like Counter-Strike 2, where precise movement and timing are crucial. Valve had already banned this feature, classifying it as an unacceptable form of automation that undermines the skill-based nature of the game.
ESL response and community backlash
As soon as the violation was detected, ESL took immediate action by nullifying Heroic map win, giving it to Ninjas in Pyjamas. Although the player avoided additional punishments, the incident has thrown Heroic's participation in the tournament into jeopardy. The situation has ignited a firestorm within the CS2 community, with many fans and players expressing disbelief that such a mistake could happen at this level.
Valve's response serves as a clear message to all players: the use of any form of automation, whether through scripting or hardware, will not be tolerated. As the ESL Pro League progresses, the implications of this controversy on Heroic's standing in the tournament remain to be seen, but the incident has undoubtedly left a mark on the competitive scene.
