League of Legends is as much about style as it is about strategy. Whether you want to strike fear into your enemies with a menacing Legendary skin or flex the latest Prestige edition on Summoner’s Rift, skins are a core part of the experience. Ranging from in-game events to direct purchases and even crafting, the ways to get skins nowadays are plenty, however, meaning it’s easy to get lost in the options.

In this guide, we will break down every possible way to acquire skins in League of Legends, whether you're looking to spend Riot Points (RP), test your luck with loot, or grind through the Battle Pass tracks. No matter your budget, there’s always a way to expand your collection.

Buying and Crafting Skins

The grand majority of skins in League of Legends are purchasable through the store. Inside the store, which can be accessed through the game client, you can purchase skins in exchange for RP (the in-game currency).

All of the game's skins purchasable through the store are separated into tiers depending on the skin's quality. These tiers look as follows:

  • Basic skins: 390-975 RP
  • Epic skins: 1350 RP
  • Legendary skins: 1820 RP
  • Ultimate skins: 3250 RP

Outside of the store, however, skins can also be crafted by going into the 'Crafting' section of the Loot tab in the client. To craft skins, you will need two components: Skin Shards and Orange Essence.

Alternatively, if you don't have enough Orange Essence to spend on a Skin Shard of your liking, you can also combine three Skin Shards to create one League of Legends Champion Skin. The skin generated in this way will be chosen at random, but will always be one that you don't already own. Skin Shards are obtainable in-game through loot, and should be used wisely.

Battle Pass Skins

Battle Passes in League of Legends offer two tracks: a free version and a paid version. Within the event window of each running Battle Pass, skins are acquirable by reaching different milestones.

The free version of a Battle Pass offers the possibility to earn one skin, while the paid version offers several. These skins include a Battle Pass Prestige skin which becomes available to anyone who reaches level 50 on the paid track.

Prestige Skins

Prestige skins come either in the paid version of a Battle Pass or are purchasable through the Mythic Shop. As mentioned above, you must reach level 50 in a paid Battle Pass track in order to unlock the Pass' Prestige skin.

As for the Mythic Shop, this is accessible through the Loot tab in the game's client. Once in the Mythic Shop, you will find Prestige skins along with other types of Mythic skins, all of which can be purchased with Mythic Essence. Mythic Essence can be acquired through special events and by leveling up your Event Passes.

The skins made available through the Mythic Shop rotate on unique timers, so make sure to check it out now and again.

The Mythic Shop also offers access to Mythic skins, a tier of League of Legends skins which cannot be purchased with RP on the regular shop. Moreover, Mythic skins are sometimes also made available for a limited time during special events.

The Sanctum: Exalted Skins and Mythic Variant Skins

Accessible through the client, the Sanctum uses its own type of currency called Ancient Sparks. The Sanctum allows players to spend this currency to roll from a pool of skins for a chance to earn either an Exalted skin or a Mythic Variant skin.

These tiers of League of Legends skins are both only obtainable through the Sanctum, making them very valuable.

Victorious and Honor Skins

In the past, Victorious skins were awarded to all players who finished the League of Legends season with a rank of Gold or higher. Now, however, players must achieve a minimum of 15 ranked game wins in order to receive a Victorious skin instead.

Victorious skins are a mark of prowess, with a new skin being released with every new season. These type of skins cannot be purchased, so remember to try your hardest when you load up to play ranked games.

Meanwhile, Honor skins used to be available for purchase in exchange for Honor tokens. Moving forward, however, Honor skins such as Three Honors Akshan will be automatically given to players who reach Honor Level 5 instead, adding more free skin options to the list.

Transcendent Skins: Hall of Legends

Transcendent skins were introduced to League of Legends with Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok's induction to the Hall of Legends, and stand on a tier of all their own.

To obtain the Immortalized Legend Ahri skin, you can go to the in-game store and purchase either the Immortalized Legend Collection (32,430 RP) or the Signature Immortalized Legend Collection (59,260 RP).

Legacy and Limited Edition Skins

Legacy skins are a type of older League of Legends content which cannot be normally acquired through the in-game store anymore. These Legacy skins, however, can still be crafted or may even become available for a short period of time during specific events.

Meanwhile, Limited Edition skins were skins that were exclusively tied to certain moments in the game's history, and can no longer be acquired today, making them some of the rarest skins in League of Legends.
