Introducing Gen.G Mobil1 Racing: New RLCS Major Winners
It seems like Gen.G Mobil1 Racing has come from nowhere! The North American team has only been playing together since late September 2022 but they’ve already made their presence known at the RLCS Fall Split Major.
After sneaking up into the top 3 during the group stage, Gen.G Mobil1 Racing defeated some of the teams in the world to come out on top. It was certainly a bit of a surprise but it wasn’t the first time some of the players have seen success in Rocket League!
Team composition - top Rocket League players
Of course, it’s nothing new that every Rocket League team must have 3 players with at least one substitute and Gen.G Mobil1 Racing are no different. The team comp for this Major was:
- Jack “Apparentlyjack” Benton
- Nick “Chronic” Iwanski
- Joseph “noly” Kidd.
The British and American players have only been working together with their sub Pollo since September. But this isn’t their first experience in the RLCS. In fact, all of them have been playing professionally since 2019. There are some pretty big team names in their histories including Karmine Corp, Dignitas and Team Singularity.
Gen.G Mobil1 Racing - how they took the title
After dropping only 4 games in the group stage, Gen.G Mobil1 Racing made it through to the playoffs in round 4. They even managed two clean runs of 3 - 0 against both FaZe Clan and Australian org PWR. At this point, their Achilles heel came in the form of Oxygen Esports, who managed to defeat the Major champions with a clean 3 - 0 of their own.
From there, the playoffs began and Gen.G Mobil1 Racing powered through without too much difficulty. After defeating both Team Liquid and FaZe Clan in the quarter and semi finals, they had to face off against previous Major winners, Moist Esports. After a real nail biter, they managed to win 4 - 2 in the best of 7.
The Fall Split Major was an amazing start to the new Rocket League Championship Series and it goes without saying that they’ve started as they mean to go on!
What’s next in the world of Rocket League?
With the first Major of the year already over and done with, the next thing to expect is another season of games. While no S-Tier or A-Tier tournament dates have been announced just yet, it seems safe to say that fans can expect a new league in the coming year.
While Gen.G Mobil1 Racing have managed to collect a huge 32 RLCS points from their win in Rotterdam, alongside the $100,000 prize fund, there’s still a way to go. There are still 2 more Majors to come in the year before the next Worlds and Gen.G will certainly be hoping to take home that title as well!
