“Faker” is one of the most enduring names in competitive League of Legends. His legacy, accomplishments, and status as one of gaming’s greatest has cemented his reputation in the annals of esports history. Even non-fans of League or esports have heard of his name. And now, 10 years into his career, “Faker” is in the semifinals of Worlds 2023 with T1.

During his long historic career, he has set some of the most incredible records. However, there are two notable ones that he has maintained, even to this day.

He Has Never Failed to Make at Least Semifinals

“Faker” has never failed to make lower than a Semifinals at any of the Worlds he has attended since his debut year. Since 2013, he has attended 8 of the 11 Worlds. He has won three of them: 2013, 2015, 2016. “Faker” also made the finals in 2017 and 2022, and the semifinals in 2019 and 2021. This makes T1’s latest placement in the semifinals of Worlds 2023 his 8th appearance in at least the Semifinals.

Never Lost to the LPL (At Worlds)

Another notable achievement for “Faker” is that he has never lost a Best-of series to an LPL team at Worlds. While he may have lost to BLG and JDG earlier this year at MSI, he has yet to lose to an LPL team while in attendance at Worlds.

T1 or SKT (with Faker), has only ever lost to other LCK teams and LEC teams. “Faker” currently still holds a perfect win record over the LPL teams and LCS teams.

To emphasis the stakes, T1 is the only non-LPL team left at Worlds 2023. The other three teams are - JD Gaming, Bilibili Gaming, and Weibo Gaming. In order to preserve this record, T1 would have to surmount the incredible favorites of JDG, before facing off against the winner of the BLG/Weibo series.

The Absurdity of Faker’s Legacy

Since his debut in 2013, there have been 19 international events: 8 Mid-Season Invitationals (MSI) and 11 Worlds. “Faker” has qualified for 6 of the 8 MSIs. He has won 2 of them, made the finals of 2 more, and the semifinals of 2. That means “Faker” has been a finalist for 50% of all MSIs to have been held.

We have already mentioned his record for Worlds appearances. Domestically, he has won 10 titles and holds the runner-up title in 5 more. 15 out of 23 splits.

Conclusion

“Faker’s legacy will endure no matter what. He has already accomplished more than any group of players collectively could dream of accomplishing. However, still, the world will look on anxiously as he and T1 compete in the Semifinals against JDG. One record has been secured for another year. The other…will have to be tested at least twice more.
