Mata and KIM joins Gen.G LoL roster as new coaches
Legendary support Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong has joined historic South Korean esports organization Gen.G. Moreover, this comes alongside Kim “KIM” Jung-su, who is also joining Gen.G as the Head Coach. The news came amidst an official announcement introducing the entire Gen.G lineup for the 2024 LCK season.
As previously covered by Strafe Esports (reported as extremely likely at the time of writing), Gen.G’s roster will include Chovy and Peyz as the surviving remnants of the 2023 roster. Kiin and Lehends from KT Rolster as well as Canyon from Dplus Kia to round out the team.
Now, the coaching staff has been introduced, and the main highlights have to be Mata and KIM. Both of these coaches have had some extremely notable past teams on their resume, and bring a collective resume that easily matches the star power of the players.

Mata and KIM to Reignite Gen.G
As a brief overview over both these men’s careers, let’s first delve into Mata. Considered one of the most legendary Support player during the LCK’s golden era, he has played on many notable teams, including MVP Ozone, Samsung White, RNG, and SKT T1. He was often characterized for his incredible mechanical prowess as a Support, gaining especial notoriety for his Thresh. Moreover, he is also the only Support player to be awarded MVP at the World Championship, having won with Samsung White in 2014.
KIM for his part, is an incredibly decorated coach who has marched alongside teams such as Samsung Galaxy, Invictus Gaming (during Worlds win), DAMWON Gaming, T1, and DRX . He now joins the hallowed halls of Gen.G.
If there was any two individuals who could steer the Gen.G ship right, especially internationally, it would be these two. Gen.G has never had an issue performing domestically, having won both Playoffs in the LCK in 2023. However, heading into both MSI and Worlds, the struggles could clearly be seen in maintaining that form for the players.
