With 2025 just around the corner, Riot Games has revealed an exciting lineup of updates for Season 1 of League of Legends. The new season takes players deep into the heart of Noxus, a region famed for its martial might, cloak-and-dagger schemes, and relentless pursuit of power. From map overhauls to major gameplay innovations, let’s dive into what’s in store.

The Seasonal Split

From 2025 onwards, the year will be split into 3 Seasons, with each season having it’s own unique theme. These seasons, each expected to last about 16 weeks, will also be divided into two Acts per Season. Every Season will showcase a unique theme and narrative, interconnected across the year, serving as the foundation for most in-game content. This includes gameplay updates, modes, skins, mini-games, and champions, all deeply tied to the Season’s theme.

The Noxian Invasion of the Rift

Prepare to step into a battlefield fully immersed in Noxian culture. The first Season of 2025 brings with it the Noxus theme. The Noxian takeover of Summoner’s Rift marks one of the boldest thematic updates in League of Legends to date. This immersive transformation comes on the heels of the release of Ambessa, a formidable Noxian Warlord and prominent character from Arcane Season 2, as League’s newest champion. Her arrival sets the stage for the Season 1 theme, drawing players into the ruthless and power-hungry world of Noxus.

The update brings a complete thematic overhaul to Summoner’s Rift, with:

  • Noxian War Turrets featuring new, intense animations.
  • Minions styled as if straight from Noxus Prime.
  • Shopkeepers dressed in the grandiose garb of the Noxian Masquerade.

To maintain competitive integrity, areas like the river and blue buff zones retain their lush aesthetics, contrasting with the crimson-tinted bases and lane terrain. These visual updates stay for all of Season 1, setting a high bar for future seasonal themes.

2025 introduces Atakhan, an ancient demon of bloodshed who adds a dramatic new objective to the Rift:

  • Spawn Conditions: Atakhan appears at 20:00 on the side of the map with the most champion damage and kills by 14:00. His spawn area becomes a permanent addition to the terrain.
  • Two Forms:
    • Ruinous Atakhan (high-action games): Rewards include permanent buffs to epic monster effects and Bloodroses that grant teamwide XP and Adaptive Force boosts.
    • Voracious Atakhan (low-action games): Provides a one-time team-wide rebirth buff and increased gold from takedowns.

Atakhan’s arrival encourages teams to shape the game’s narrative uniquely, adding strategic depth and variation.

Feats of Strength: Early Game Milestones

A new system, Feats of Strength, shifts how early-game objectives impact the game. Teams compete for three Feats:

  1. First Blood
  2. First Tower
  3. First Three Epic Jungle Monsters

Winning two Feats grants the Blessing of Noxus, upgrading Tier 2 boots with bonus stats. Players can later purchase Tier 3 Noxian-themed boots, each offering unique effects—like Plated Steelcaps granting a physical shield after taking damage.

Respawning Nexus Turrets

Late-game comebacks become more feasible with respawning Nexus Turrets. Like inhibitors, destroyed Nexus Turrets regenerate after a set time, helping teams rally and reducing the stress of defending an exposed Nexus.

Rune Overhaul: New Additions and Changes

Several new minor runes are coming in 2025:

  • Axiom Arcanist (Sorcery Tree): Enhances ultimate abilities with extra damage, healing, or shielding.
  • Deep Ward, Sixth Sense, and Grizzly Mementos (Domination Tree): Replace vision runes like Zombie Ward, offering fresh, tactical choices.

These changes aim to rebalance the rune system, especially for players focused on utility and vision control.

Bloodletter’s Curse: A New Item for Spellcasters

Inspired by the Arena mode, Bloodletter’s Curse debuts as an AP alternative to Black Cleaver. It reduces enemy magic resistance through repeated spell hits, opening up new build paths for burst mages and sustained-damage champions.

Teleport Rework

Teleport receives a significant adjustment to address its outsized early-game influence:

  • Visual Travel: Teleport now moves champions visibly across the map, making early-game plays more reactable.
  • Early Targeting: Players can again target minions and wards before 14:00.
  • Weaker Early Homeguards: Base boosts start from the game’s beginning to balance walking and Teleporting back to lane.

These changes reward strategic Teleport usage while mitigating its role as a "reset button" in the laning phase.

The 2025 updates aim to bring fresh gameplay experiences while enhancing League's thematic immersion. This season sets out to create dynamic, memorable matches.
