NRG release Demon1 to Free Agency
After months riding the bench following a spectacular failure that was the 2024 NRG VALORANT project, 2023 Champions MVP Max “Demon1” Mazanov has been released from NRG Esports. He is now free to pursue opportunities with other organizations during one of the most chaotic and exciting off-seasons in VALORANT’s admittedly short esports history.
Demon1 and Ethan NRG project crash and burn
Despite entering into 2024 as one of the most exciting rosters, NRG failed to make a single international tournament. This was despite retaining the services of the NRG duo of Austin “crashies” Roberts and Victor “Victor” Wong, the return of former OpTic compatriot Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen and the power duo formerly of EG, Demon1 and Ethan “Ethan” Cole Arnold.
Midway through the season, Demon1 found himself benched after the team failed to qualify for Master Shanghai, the second Masters event of the year. NRG suffered their most shocking placement domestically in 2024 since their entry into the VALORANT esports space, finishing 9th-10th in Stage 1.
Former captain and IGL Pujan “FNS” Mehta and Sam “s0m” Oh were brought back to right the ship but few things seemed to be capable of raising it from the ocean’s graveyard and unfortunately, NRG finished 8th in the following Stage (Stage 2).
Demon1 has now been connected with Leviatán as part of a rebuild on that side as well, following the departure of Roberto "Mazino" Francisco Rivas Bugueño and most likely Erick "aspas" Santos.
Recoup and Rebuild for 2025
Heading into 2025, it appears, NRG are calling it quits after a half-season with their superstar, passing him on in favor of younger talent. Andrew “Verno” Maust has already been connected to NRG’s new roster, another Tier 2 super talent in similar vein to Demon1’s.
While the 2024 season ended as a disaster, with virtually every talent connected with the roster having been let go, 2025 promises a new, steadier future for the team, with FNS back at the helm for his final year of professional play.
NRG Current Roster for 2025
- Ethan “Ethan” Cole Arnold
- Pujan “FNS” Mehta
- Sam “s0m” Oh
