PGL Major Copenhagen Trophy breaks amid Protests and Disruptions
The first official CS2 Major is underway and it is not without its fair share of drama. Last night, two protestors stormed the PGL Major stage to protest against G2 Esports and one of its sponsors CSGORoll.
A brawl followed as the security tried restraining the protestors resulting in the trophy falling and breaking.
The two protestors reportedly represent CSGOEmpire, a P2P marketplace for trading Counter-Strike skins. They were protesting against G2 Esports and their partnership with CSGORoll, who according to CSGOEmpire, is a “criminal organization and scam casino.”
The two protestors were soon subdued by the security but not before causing real damage. Following the incident, PGL issued a statement on their X/Twitter, talking about the disruptions. They will also “be pressing charges against the disruptors.”
PGL followed the earlier statement with a crowd appreciation post that was present during the whole debacle.
G2 Esports or CSGORoll have not made any statement directly addressing the protest, except G2 CS’s witty tweet about the incident that disrupted the game. The team also restricted themselves from fan interaction due to the security concerns.
The brawl yesterday wasn’t the first dramatic incident of the Major, a day before the Brazilian community criticized the PGL for asking Dezorganizada Furiosa to stop drumming since it disrupted the broadcast.
Despite the setbacks, the major is a huge success and has completed the Quarterfinals last night. Today, FaZe Clan will take on Team Vitality followed by Natus Vincere taking on G2 Esports in the semifinals.
