“It’s gonna be removed next week so the coach decided to play the map for fun” PRX f0rsaken talks about playing Icebox against GES
During the VCT Pacific Week 5, Paper Rex took down Global Esports in a best of three series. Paper Rex lost the first map but brought it back in the second and third to win the series. After the win, Strafe had an opportunity to interview Paper Rex’s Jason “f0rsaken” Susanto. In an exclusive one-on-one interview, PRX f0rsaken talks about the game, the map choice, playing multiple roles and more.
Q. You had an exceptional performance today. You played three different agents at a really high level. How did you adjust to three different roles?
PRX f0rsaken: “Ever since transitioning to Valorant I have been flexible. My agent pool is flexible and I can play any agent at a high level. I find line ups for agents so It wasn’t that harsh.”
Q. Compared to playing duelist, Sentinels, Especially Killjoys are passive agents. How was transitioning to Killjoy?
PRX f0rsaken: “It’s definitely hard adjusting to different playstyles. But you just have to adjust to your team and understand the game plan to make the right decisions at the right time and ensure not be too predictable”
Q. What was the reason for playing Icebox?
PRX f0rsaken: “We have been practising Icebox with Cgrs. It’s gonna be removed next week so the coach decided to play the map for fun. Also it will be sad for Cgrs if he didn’t play at all and we might play him on other maps but we’ll see”
Q. With Icebox, we also saw the debut of Gekko for Paper Rex. How was Gekko as an agent?
PRX f0rsaken: “I am not really sure about Gekko as an agent. He’s good on some maps but really bad on some maps. We are still trying to figure out how to play him correctly. I think Gekko for me is good and bad”
Q. Did you have any problems on the second or the third map? Any mistakes you want to point out?
PRX f0rsaken: “I think on the second and third map we played really well. There were small mistakes on individual level but overall we played really well”
Q. Paper Rex was nervous during the DRX game, Do you think nerves were an issue for you too?
PRX f0rsaken: “To be honest yes, sometimes. But last time against DRX, we really wanted to beat them and it might have worked against us and lead to the poor performance. But on the second map we could’ve won but anyways”
Q. Bind will return next week. What are your thoughts on the map pool change? Also, you are known for your Yoru on Bind, Can we see more of that?
PRX f0rsaken: “I am really happy Bind is back. But we have to see what composition we will play. But I feel I should play Yoru because my Bind Yoru is really strong”
Q. Do you think Riot should make changes mid season?
PRX f0rsaken: “Maybe it’s not a good thing. But I am just waiting for the Chamber buffs”
Q. You’d face Talon next. What are your thoughts on the matchup and the team itself?
PRX f0rsaken: “I think Talon is not a bad team. I think they just don’t have enough practice. But next week we meet, I hope it’ll be a great game”
Q. Who do you think will be the toughest opponent for you moving forward?
PRX f0rsaken: “We haven’t played GenG. So probably GenG”
Q. Paper Rex is internationally renowned for its playstyle. You had some great international runs too. What do you think you need to work on as a team to win the International trophy?
PRX f0rsaken: “I think as a team we are trying to integrate PRX “something” into our team. With him in the team we have to adjust to him a little bit. Secondly, we need to fix our mentality on the stage. Because sometimes under pressure we don’t communicate well so we need to work on that”
Q. Are there any communication issues with PRX something?
PRX f0rsaken: “There is no primary IGL in PRX, So duelist call for the strats and others support. In terms of that, we are still adjusting to something”
Q. With different members of PRX, we see different faces of PRX. Do you plan to weaponize this? For eg. running multiple compositions on a single map?
PRX f0rsaken: “I can’t tell much but we plan to use all the players. Having seven players is good for us because it’ll be unexpected and a surprise for the opponents.”
Q. What are your expectations from the season?
PRX f0rsaken: “At least we qualify for Tokyo. And if we meet DRX again, I hope I can beat them.”
Q. Which team are you looking forward to facing internationally?
PRX f0rsaken: “Sentinels. I have been wanting to meet TenZ for a long time. I really want to fight him and play against him”
Paper Rex will face Talon next week. After Paper Rex continue their winning ways, they are on the path to become the top Pacific team and have a shot at the number one spot in Leaderboard. Talon (prev. Xerxia) is an old rival for Paper Rex and the game will surely be exciting.
