“Prolly Fnatic, their lineup is really strong” PRX mindfreak talks about the team he wants to face at Masters Tokyo
In the seventh week of VCT Pacific, Paper Rex took on ZETA Division in a best-of-three series. The Champions of Chaos took down the Japanese powerhouse in two games, solidifying their position in the league. After the game, Strafe interviewed Paper Rex’s Superstar controller Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart. In an exclusive one-on-one interview, PRX mindfreak talks about the game, personal performance, upcoming games and more.
Q. How are you feeling? What are your thoughts on the game?
PRX mindfreak: “I think we did everything we planned for the game”
Q. The first map was flawless from Paper Rex but on the second map we saw Paper Rex’s overextension getting punished by ZETA. Do you think that is a problem you need to address during the future games against stronger opponents?
PRX mindfreak: “Ugh, I don’t think it is a problem, we just need to fix our crossfires and that’s it. I don’t think it’s like that, I don’t think aggression or over-peeking is a problem, that’s how we play, we love taking risks. Maybe with some plays we are over-extending ourselves but that’s fine”
Q. Did ZETA winning multiple rounds in a row put pressure on Paper Rex at all?
PRX mindfreak: “Not at all”
Q. What are your thoughts on the team’s performance in the game today?
PRX mindfreak: “Everyone played really well and calm today. It’s kinda rare that we play this calm. It has been a year that we played this calm and it was actually impressive”
Q. We saw you struggle at LOCK//IN and initially at VCT Pacific but now you look ready to dominate, what changed for you?
PRX mindfreak: “I mean ever since we moved to Korea I had a lot of problems with myself, Inside the game and outside. So yeah, ever since I hit the gym and fixed myself I started playing well”
Q. PRX something is the new addition to the team, how’d you assess his performance so far in the tournament? Do you think this is the new height for Paper Rex?
PRX mindfreak: “He’s really good as a duelist. His plays and calls, even though he plays really aggressively, he knows when to stop. And I really like that about him. If this is the new height for Paper Rex, We’d see about that”
Q. What are the team’s plans for Benkai?
PRX mindfreak: “I am not sure about it. It’s all about the coach. We players don’t really have a say in it”
Q. With the win, you have secured playoffs. What are your thoughts on GenG and what’d be your gameplan going into the match-up?
PRX mindfreak: “I think GenG is like a really great team but lately they have a lot of lacking stuff they had. As preparation, we’d just do the usual”
Q. Your final game will be against RRQ, What do you think about the team?
PRX mindfreak: “I mean it’s good to win. RRQ is a great team and they have improved a lot since lock//in. If we win then great, if we lose we learn right.”
Q. Do you think Paper Rex has anything to prove to the world?
PRX mindfreak: “I don’t think we have things to prove. If we have something to prove, we are going to play like shit. If you play the game with the pressure, it is not fun”
Q. What would Paper Rex work on moving forward?
PRX mindfreak: “Maybe creating new plans, new crossfires (to hold sites) and new protocols that’s it”
Q. Which team would you like to face in the playoffs the most?
PRX mindfreak: “Honestly personally I think all the teams are same for me but maybe Team Secret again”
Q. Did the map change affect you at all? Do you think Riot should change things mid-season?
PRX mindfreak: “Personally Icebox is my favorite map, but as a team we lose Icebox a lot. So it is kinda good for us that Bind is back. I don’t think (Riot changing meta) is a wise call at all”
Q. You are on the road to qualify for Masters Tokyo. Which team would you like to face in Tokyo?
PRX mindfreak: “Probably Fnatic because their lineup is really really strong”
Paper Rex will face GenG and RRQ at the VCT Pacific Superweek. Paper Rex has already secured playoffs. The game against GenG will be a game to determine the second seed of VCT Pacific. A win in the first game of the superweek will solidify Paper Rex as the #2 team in the Pacific.
