Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft's tactical shooter, has a unique blend of strategy, destructible environments, and operator-based gameplay. No wonder players across the globe want to experience it with friends on different platforms.

One of the most requested features from the community has been crossplay, allowing players to team up regardless of their platform. Lucky them, Rainbow Six Siege Crossplay exists, but you need to know exactly how it functions to properly enjoy your gameplay.

In this article, we’ll talk about crossplay, how to enable or disable it, and talk about some of the most important aspects to take into consideration before jumping into action.

Rainbow Six Siege Crossplay: The Basics

Yes, Rainbow Six Siege does support crossplay, and it is as open-ended as many players expected. Crossplay is available between all platforms and can be personalized based on the player's preferences, including or excluding specific platforms during matchmaking.

What platforms support crossplay?

Players on PC, Stadia, Luna, PlayStation (PS4/PS5) and Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S) can now join the same lobbies, form squads, and compete together. This feature comes with robust options, allowing console players to select from platform-specific, console-only, or PC-inclusive matchmaking pools.

To maintain fairness, Mousetrap V2 has been introduced. It identifies players using keyboard and mouse in console pools, enforcing a three-strike penalty system that relocates offenders to the PC pool for 90 days. Additionally, console players in PC pools will be indistinguishable from their PC counterparts.

How to enable or disable the feature

If you want to play Rainbow Six Siege with friends on other platforms, you’ll need to enable crossplay. By default, crossplay comes enabled, but you can toggle this setting to suit your preferences.

Here’s how to manage crossplay in Rainbow Six Siege:

  1. Open Rainbow Six Siege;
  2. Go to the Options menu;
  3. Navigate to the General tab;
  4. Find the Crossplay Matchmaking setting;
  5. Set it to On or Off, depending on your preference;

If you want to restrict your matches to players on the same platform (perhaps due to concerns about unfair advantages), you can turn off crossplay. However, keep in mind that turning off crossplay can make matchmaking times longer due to a smaller pool of players.

How to turn off Rainbow Six Siege Crossplay communication

In addition to turning off crossplay matchmaking, you may also want to disable crossplay communication if you prefer not to interact with players on other platforms. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Go to the Options menu in Rainbow Six Siege;
  2. Scroll to the Crossplay Communication setting;
  3. Set it to Off;

This will prevent any cross-platform voice or text communication during your matches.

Cross-Progression in Rainbow Six Siege

Cross-progression is also an important feature that is available in Rainbow Six Siege. This means that when you link your Ubisoft account to your platforms, progress and rewards appear across devices.

Here’s what’s shared between platforms:

  • Rank and MMR: Your current rank, rank history, and skill MMR are shared between console platforms (Xbox and PlayStation) or between PC and cloud services like Luna.
  • Cosmetics: Skins, operators, battle pass rewards, and other cosmetic items can be shared across platforms. This ensures that your purchases and unlocks stay with you no matter where you play.

To enable cross-progression, you need to link your Ubisoft account to your platform accounts. This allows you to carry your cosmetics, Renown, R6 Credits, and progress across different systems. However, be aware that linking your accounts is permanent—once you link your platforms, you cannot unlink or switch them easily.

Ready to own opponents from other platforms?

Rainbow Six Siege’s crossplay feature is a welcome addition, where console players can enjoy crossplay with others on PC or cloud service platforms like Luna.

For those looking to play with friends across different platforms, crossplay in Rainbow Six Siege offers a solid experience, with cross-progression ensuring that your progress and cosmetics stay intact.

As Rainbow Six Siege continues to evolve, we can expect more updates and changes to increase the fun of everyone around the globe, so stay tuned for any future developments!
