Riot Games Suspends Former NRG Head Coach Chet for Streaming VODs
Earlier today, Riot Games suspended former NRG and OpTic Gaming head coach Chet “Chet” Singh. According to a post on VCT NA’s X (formerly Twitter), Chet was suspended for violating Riot Games’ Global Esports Code of Conduct.
The post details the specifics of the ruling and what led to the suspension. Chet was punished for streaming confidential Official VCT game VODs on his Twitch channel on July 31st.
These VODs included sensitive player, coach, and referee communications. While Riot Games does provide these to players and organizations, unedited VODs cannot be shared publicly without prior authorization from the involved organizations and Riot Games itself.
Additionally, Chet streamed the VODs before the conclusion of the VCT 2024 season, further aggravating the breach of confidentiality. This violated Article 3.21 of Riot Games' Global Esports Code of Conduct.
As the head coach of NRG, a leadership role within the organization, Chet "failed to uphold the integrity and expectations required of leadership roles," leading to a four-month suspension, effective immediately until March 3, 2025.
Chet confirmed on X that the 'disciplinary proceedings' were the reason he could not accept any offers for the upcoming season.
He also expressed his disagreement with the ruling, stating that no parties were harmed by his actions.
The community has expressed shock at the news, with multiple notable figures coming out to support Chet using the hashtag #freechet. Chet also mentioned that he will be streaming until the suspension ends.
