Sentinels Fight for Their King: “TenZ” resigns with Sentinels for upcoming VCT 2023 season
After a month of speculation, Sentinels had now confirmed that star player Tyson “TenZ” Ngo has re-signed with the organization for the upcoming 2023 season. The announcement was posted on Sentinel’s official Twitter. With this signing, Sentinels have secured all 5 spots on their roster.
The Valorant super star and popular Twitch streamer has seen much criticism weighed his way over the past year for his performance. Expectations for the 21-year-old is always undoubtedly higher than for the average player as the young wunderkind has been wow-ing fans since his debut in 2020. Consistently aim-diffing his opponents and pulling off miracles has become synonymous with his brand, and unfortunately, so does the pressure to consistently perform at such ridiculous heights.
The past month has seen the North American (NA) roster create massive waves in the community, first signing coaches Don “SyykoNT” Muir and Adam “kaplan” Kaplan of XSET and GHOST Gaming respectively.
The signing was followed by reports from notable source George Geddes that former XSET star player Zachary “zekken” Patrone and In-Game Leader (IGL) Rory “dephh” Jackson would be joining their former coach on his new roster.
This alone perked interest in what could be considered a new era for Sentinels, however, a few days ago, it was also leaked that the NA organization was also signing Valorant 2022 champions winners Gustavo “Sacy” Rossi and Bryan “pANcada” Luna, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
“Sacy” and “pANcada” were integral parts of LOUD’s Cinderella run at Champions 2022, taking down giants Optic Gaming and DRX in the process. The Brazilian organization demonstrated the peak capabilities of the region, smashing their opposition in dominating fashion.
These reports come on the heel of another that Sentinels were releasing Shahzeb “ShahZam” Khan and Michael “dapr” Gulino, the remaining 2 active members of the original roster. This, along with reports that Hunter “SicK” Mims has benched himself following reports of mental health issues, now leaves the roster’s former glory all in the hands of Valorant’s prodigal son, “TenZ”, and his new squad.
By all accounts, Sentinels look determined to make 2023 their year, with a cleaning of house that included not just the front, but backend as well. An official Twitter announcement from Sentinels announces the release of coach Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty alongside analyst Dani “Dani” Hashweh.
Despite their rocky 2022, the original Sentinels roster was the team that won many NA fan’s hearts with the combination of charisma, chemistry, and skill. Heading into 2023, the NA organization will be brandishing a very different face, with a whole mix of new fans to sate.
While impossible at this juncture to predict the state of Valorant, it is clear that Sentinels is ready to start winning again, and they have assembled the pieces capable of doing so. Fans eagerly await the rekindling of the fire, as the hope of NA.
As of now, the Sentinels roster looks as follows:
