So long partner: NRG Valorant and s0m part ways after three years together
After three long years of partnership, NRG Valorant and Sam “s0m” Oh have decided to part ways. After an unexpected group stage exit at Valorant Champion 2023, s0m had stepped down from the active roster. Last night, NRG Twitter announced s0m’s departure from the organization. The announcement concludes a three-year long relationship between NRG and s0m. S0m will wait for a worthwhile opportunity while streaming during the off/season.
Today we say farewell to @s0mcs Since joining us three years ago, Sam was everything you could ask for as a streamer, a teammate, and a friend. Thank you for being with us on this journey, and we wish you all the best for the future. You'll always be a W streamer ❤️
S0m and NRG Valorant:
A CS:GO alumnus, s0m started his Valorant career with NRG. The first iteration of NRG featured s0m, daps, KOLER, eeiu and xCeeD. The NRG was a strong team but had a hard time cracking the top echelon of North American Valorant. The team switched out multiple players in 2020 to make the team work. S0m was always the center piece for the roster and helped them achieve significant results in 2022.
Despite s0m’s efforts, he failed to crack the top of Valorant world and did not attend a single International LAN under NRG in 2022. He was always one of the best if not the best player for NRG.
VCT 2023 and future:
When NRG set out to rebuild for VCT 2023 Americas league, they retained s0m. Along with ex-FPX ardiis, the Optic core of FNS, Victor, Crashies and Chet joined the squad. With s0m filling the shoes of marved as the controller for the team. A lot of people doubted s0m but with his International debut at VCT LOCK//IN and his amazing performances throughout the year, s0m has established himself as one of the best players in the world.
Unfortunately, the team did not stand up to the expectations. The 9th-12th finish at the Valorant Champions 2023 was the final nail in the coffin for the squad. Shortly after FNS and s0m announced on the stream, they stepped down from the roster.
s0m confirms him and FNS are no longer on NRG's starting Valorant roster, they will be full time streaming until an opportunity comes up
Finally, yesterday NRG announced the departure of s0m after three years. In the announcement s0m conveys his plans to stick to streaming until a better offer arrives on his door.
