T1 to face KT Rolster for a Final Chance to qualify for Worlds 2024
- The stage is now set for a series some would call the fated showdown - T1 vs KT Rolster. The two teams have clashed a total of 5 times in 2024 and currently, T1 hold the distinct edge at 4-1, if we count series wins rather than individual games.
With today’s match outcome coming out in favor of KT Rolster after their decisive victory over BNK FearX (3-0), both T1 and KT Rolster are set to clash one final time in 2024 for the final spot to Worlds 2024.
T1 will face KT Rolster tomorrow at 8am CET / 3pm KST in the final, decisive Telecom war to determine who will not only be the final LCK member to attend Worlds this year, but the final attendee for this year’s edition of Worlds - period.
KT Rolster Steamroll FearX to keep Worlds dream alive
In today’s series between the 5th and 6th ranked LCK teams (Championship-points wise), FearX appeared no match for KT Rolster.
Despite a fairly competitive Game 1 that went over 44 minutes long, FearX was unable to close out the series. After that, they lost much of the wind in their sails as KT took a clean Game 2 after grabbing and holding onto a gold lead the entire time.
In Game 3, FearX initially managed to secure a gold lead by finding First Blood and First Tower. Unfortunately, that lead and hope was short-lived as KT eventually overcame the lead by the late game, securing the 2nd and 3rd Drake in quick succession before a Baron-empowered end at 32 minutes.
T1 vs KT, Faker vs Deft
Worlds 2022 Grand Finals. Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, and Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee crushed T1’s dreams of a World championship in San Francisco. Now the trio have reunited on KT Rolster to once again face the team they once brought to tears.
Moreover, Deft has confirmed this will finally, most definitely, 100% be his Final Dance. Meaning, win or lose, this will also be his Final Dance against his fated once-schoolmate turned decade-long rival: Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.
T1 Keeps Dream of Defending Crown Alive, Despite Poor Season
Despite finishing 2nd in the Summer Split in points, T1 have visibly shown a poor season overall. Their win at the Esports World Cup and their deep run at MSI aside, T1 look deeply troubled and a shadow of their usual dominant selves.
Last year, no team aside from Gen.G could call themselves the true equal of T1 domestically. This has not been the case the entirety of this year. Criticism and empathy continue to pile on a roster already saddled with the highest expectations of any roster in Tier 1, questions of their ability to read the current meta and the ability of the players on the roster to continue delivering good form and plays.
No more Clutch Factor?
More than that, T1 historically in the last 2 years with this roster, have always had a strong clutch factor in crucial series, where despite being down in gold, down in kills, have managed to successfully pilot some of the most difficult and game-deciding teamfights. This has lent them an almost mythical ‘Main-Character’ sense in the eyes of some fans… but that magic is nowhere to be found especially in this last Summer Split.
Rumors are circulating with increasing ferocity that with the roster having been together for nearly 3 years, that this may very well be the Last Dance with these specific 5 players together. With one more chance to keep their Worlds dreams alive, it’s time to see if that T1 magic can carry them over one more finish line.
