Team Liquid Signs mithR as New Head Coach
Team Liquid has announced the signing of Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg as their new CS2 head coach.
Team Liquid announced the change via X, replacing Wilton "zews" Prado, who parted ways with the team in late June.
MithR's New Role and Pedigree
Team Liquid has recently undergone a severe roster shake-up following a series of disappointing performances. After failing to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen, Liquid had unsatisfactory finishes at IEM Chengdu, IEM Dallas, and ESL Pro League Season 19.
As a result, the team decided to bench IGL Casper "cadiaN" Møller. A few days later, they parted ways with zews, and more recently, Felipe "skullz" Medeiros, who moved to FURIA.
With the team left without a coach, Liquid brought in mithR to fill the void. The Dano-Norwegian boasts a wealth of experience, having coached several teams, including but not limited to Apeks, MOUZ and Renegades.
In his most recent stint with Apeks, the team secured second-place finishes at Elisa Masters Espoo 2023. They also achieved a second-place finish at ESL Challenger Atlanta 2023. Apeks also managed to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen. But were eliminated in the Opening Stage.
Despite recent lackluster performances, the significant roster changes Apeks underwent in 2024 could attribute to these results.
Liquid's Future Prospects
Team Liquid expressed their excitement about mithR's arrival, stating,
"We're excited to have Torbjørn join with his track record of developing IGLs & processes and bringing a thoughtful, analytical approach to coaching."
This suggests that the team is counting on the former Apeks coach's ability to craft a new future leader for the team. While it's unclear whether Liquid will bring in a new IGL, signs point toward one of the existing roster members stepping up to fill that role.
The current Team Liquid roster includes:
With Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg as head coach.
Casper "cadiaN" Møller remains on the bench.
Team Liquid is next scheduled to play at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, where they will face some of the best teams in the world. With just two weeks to get their act together, all eyes will be on mithR and the revamped Liquid squad to see if they can turn their fortunes around and deliver strong performances on the international stage.
