With the announcement of Rainbow Six Siege X and release of the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the French game publishing company, Ubisoft, is enjoying a good time in the limelight. On the back of these recent successes, on March 27th, they announced the development of a new subsidiary based on Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six and Far Cry.

The new subsidiary will focus on “building game ecosystems designed to become truly evergreen and multi-platform.” Endorsing their aspirations are Tencent, the Chinese multinational technology conglomerate, by investing a whopping €1.16 billion for a 25% minority stake in the new subsidiary. To the uninformed, Tencent is also the parent company of Riot Games, the publishers for League of Legends and VALORANT.

What does the new Ubisoft Subsidiary mean?

The new subsidiary will focus on development of better multi-platform games expanding upon the three of the most popular gaming franchises in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed.

The subsidiary will handle the development of the three franchises transforming them to evergreen ecosystems, delivering better multiplayer content and enhancing community engagement.

Moreover, this new subsidiary will also retain full operational autonomy and feature its own leadership team and board of directors. It will also have full access to the three franchises and, in return, Ubisoft will receive royalties.

With the creation of the new subsidiary we can expect it to deliver the following;

  • Better online multiplayer content for Rainbow Six.
  • A fast track development of newer titles based on Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed.
  • More F2P content based on the three franchises.
  • Faster updates and better community engagement for all titles.

The new subsidiary becomes fully functional by the end of the current year. You can read the complete press release here.
