Tresdin the Legion Commander (LC) is one of the most popular heroes in Dota 2, appearing in more than 22% of pub games. LC comes with a powerful and versatile skill set that allows her to remove debuffs, terrorize melee heroes, and even lockdown magic immune targets with Duel.

The Commander is a difficult foe to face at all stages of the game, but she is not invincible. In this article we will list the three best to Legion Commander counters, to give you the best shot of taking her down the next time you meet her.

The three best Legion Commander counters

Medusa

If you're a core player and you see LC picked up, the best option to take is Medusa. Whether it's during the laning stage or a high-ground siege, Medusa has several tools at her disposal for controlling and shutting down Legion Commander.

Thanks to her long attack range, Medusa has an easy time avoiding the damage from Overwhelming Odds and Moment of Courage, significantly reducing LC's threat level in the laning stage. Medusa can also spam Mystic Snake and slow down enemies, another headache for Tresdin to deal with.

Duel is arguably Legion Commander's most important spell and unfortunately for her, it is practically useless against Medusa. The Gorgon is too tanky to bring down during a Duel and she usually buys a Linken's Sphere anyway, completely negating the spell.

Medusa can also use Stone Gaze before Duel lands, turning the tide of the engagement and in some cases even awarding the duel victory to Medusa.

With a strong laning presence, multiple slows, and a powerful ultimate, Medusa is one of the best core counters to Legion Commander at all stages of the game.

Oracle

If you're a hard support then don't despair, you also have ways to ruin Legion Commander's day, and the best option is Oracle.

Oracle requires clever use of his spells to get the full benefit out of them, but savvy players will quickly learn that they have a ton of tools they can use to turn Legion Commander into a non-factor in the game.

Players can use Fortune's End to dispel the healing and movement speed bonus from Press the Attack, as well as the bonus attack speed from Overwhelming Odds, removing both of LC's buffs with one ability.

Legion Commander's physical damage can be a massive problem for teams to deal with, especially once she has a few Duel victories under her belt.

Luckily for Oracle, Fate's Edict disarms enemies for five seconds, rendering them toothless during that time. Be sure to use Fate's Edict while Press The Attack is on cooldown, otherwise LC can dispel it.

The biggest reason Oracle is a good counter is thanks to False Promise, which prevents allies from dying for up to 10 seconds, almost twice as long as Duel's max duration. Simply put, there is no way for LC to win a Duel against a target with False Promise. Add a Rain of Destiny on top of it, and Duel won't even deal damage.

Oracle can't kill Tresdin but he can ensure she doesn't hurt his allies. With multiple ways of neutralizing her damage, as well as removing all her buffs, Oracle wins this matchup 51% of the time, the highest among all support heroes.

Omniknight

If you're an ambitious offlaner or perhaps a support who isn't too confident playing Oracle, then Omniknight is a fantastic pickup.

Purification and Heavenly Grace provide a ton of sustain for allies, perfect for ensuring allies survive Duels. Purification also deals pure damage to nearby enemies, something the Legion Commander will have to keep her eye on during the early and mid portions of the game.

Guardian Angel provides immunity to physical attacks, that's 90% of Tresdin's damage removed.

Some players might consider using Duel on Omniknight himself, in order to ensure he doesn't get off any of his pesky spells. But that's easier said than done.

When played as a support, the hero can stay behind his allies, forcing LC to dive deep to Duel him, while core Omni is too risky to focus on, to begin with.

Omni is also a very durable hero in general, thanks to Heavenly Grace applying to him whenever he uses it on an ally.

Thanks to his durability, an abundance of defensive spells, and role flexibility, Omniknight is a great pickup to counter Legion Commander for core and support players alike.
