The Era of Void Spirit? How can you Carry Hope in Face of the Void?
Void Spirit is one of the heroes lost in time, but the recent patch update bought the hero back into the meta. As Medusa haunted every player in pubs from nearly every role, Void Spirit, on the other hand, had become a staple pick as the midlaner from Patch 7.33 onwards. The hero was moved to the Universal hero pool and received some buffs in the new patch update. These changes made the hero a viable pick, neglecting his weakness.
The buffs advantages
Before the buffs, Void Spirit would often fall off as the game progressed, regardless of how well he did during the early game. This makes him a situational pick. As he got moved to the Universal Heroes pool, most of his issues became obsolete, making him a viable core. As per Universal Heroes, he gains additional damage as he levels up.
Void Spirit’s item build has also evolved along with the buffs the hero received. Void Spirit used to build mixed damage, but now his item build is more focused on physical damage than magical damage. As the hero relies on physical damage, he now has an immense amount of burst damage if played correctly.
Item and Skill Build
Every Void Spirit player now starts with a Quelling Blade, a set of Tangos and three Iron Branches. The item changes came after rushing Bottle. The hero will pick up Bracer. After Bracer, the hero will get boots and rush Echo Sabre. Echo Sabre solves a lot of issues that the hero faces during the early game.
It gives the hero enough strength to soak up damage when he initiates the early skirmishes. The extra mana regen that Echo Sabre give comes in handy, as Void Spirit relies heavily on his spells to deal damage. After Echo Sabre, the hero will get a Desolater, giving enough damage to burst the backline support heroes. As the game progresses, Void Spirit will either get a Daedalus or a Black King Bar depending on the scenario.
Eye Of Skadi is also a viable option because Skadi gives stats. Being a Universal Hero, getting more stats means more damage for Void Spirit. Then the hero would get an Aghanim Scepter to complete his item build. The hero currently is being played as a midlaner, but players are also trying him as a safelane core.
Counters
Void Spirit is a hero that relies heavily on his mobility. Thus countering him with picks that limit his mobility, like Bloodseeker Doom, Puck and Bane, is a viable option. Currently, the hero has a 50.68 % win rate in pro-level pubs.
