The Owner of Apex Genesis calls out the gatekeepers of NA scene
The North American Dota 2 scene has long been dominated by a single roster, despite the presence of several talented players. However, this dominant roster consistently falls short on the international stage at LAN events. Consequently, some players from the region have migrated to other regions, while others have pursued careers outside of professional gaming.
While many organizations and sponsors have been hesitant to invest in the scene, one determined investor has placed his hopes in a promising roster, aiming to catalyze the region's revival.
This gamble paid off, as Apex Genesis recently qualified for the LAN event – FISSURE PLAYGROUND Belgrade 2025. The owner of Apex Genesis took to social media, expressing his unwavering support for the team and calling out individuals contributing to the decline of the NA Dota 2 professional scene.
The Issues
Scrims play a crucial role in the professional Dota 2 scene. They serve as a platform where teams test their strategies and ideas to identify areas for improvement.
Typically, teams scrim against one another to uncover weaknesses and refine their gameplay. However, the owner of Apex Genesis revealed that top-tier teams from North America have refused to scrim with them.
"Quality scrims are still quite hard to get as NA players. Nouns and SR refuse(d) to scrim us, and the top SA teams refused to scrim us as well (still do; Hi Kaffs, drop your ego)."
Furthermore, teams from the neighboring South American region have also declined to scrim with them. Even when some South American teams agreed to scrim, another issue emerged—time management.
Some teams failed to show up at the agreed-upon time. The owner expressed his discontent with these actions, especially given his respect for the potential and skill of South American teams. As a result, they would scrim against Tier 2/3 EU teams.
"Scrims with SA teams also have other issues; some (not all, but some) have issues with timeliness, and sometimes they will just ghost and not show. I know what this region is capable of, so it makes me sad that we don’t have consistent scrim partners we can rely on."
The biggest obstacle in NA Dota 2 scene
While some players have come forward to defend BuLba in the past, the owner of Apex Genesis publicly called him out, revealing that he gatekept some talented NA players for his own interests and giving false hope. He also claimed that BuLba has been the biggest obstacle to the revival of the NA Dota 2 scene.
"One other negative shoutout I'd like to throw out - Fuck Bulba. Forever. I know that might be controversial, but he gatekept talented NA players, and he honeydicked some players throughout the last year. He has been, at best, misleading with his interest in players that gives false hope at making it in the T1 scene. At worst, well. He is truly a cancer on NA dota, and has singlehandedly set NA Dota back years with his antics and overall poor leadership. There's a reason RTZ never got a ring."
For the qualifiers of FISSURE PLAYGROUND Belgrade 2025, only one slot was available for an American team in the tournament. As a result, teams from both South and North American regions had to compete fiercely for the coveted spot. When the dust settled, Apex Genesis emerged victorious, securing their place in the tournament.
