What are the rarest skins in League of Legends?
Skins in League of Legends are a great way to show off a little in front of teammates and enemies alike. Be it an attractive color scheme, a special look on all your favorite abilities or a brand new recall animation filled with references, skins often make playing a champion just a tad more rewarding.
League of Legends, however, released more than 15 years ago, meaning there are now over a thousand different skins across all champions in the game. But, have you ever wondered what the rarest skins are in League of Legends?
If you've ever come across a skin in a match that you've never seen before, or perhaps didn't even know it existed, then it's likely you'll find it on this list.
The early bird gets the worm
Several of the rarest skins in League of Legends have gained that status with the passing of time. Be it limited edition skins or skins tied to the game's release back in 2009, one thing is for certain: some of the oldest skins in League of Legends also happen to be the rarest.
Collector's Edition Exclusives
The Silver Kayle skin was only given to players who purchased a retail Collector's Edition copy of League of Legends during the game's release. Naturally, Silver Kayle, like the rest of the Collector's Edition exclusive skins, is no longer available today. This makes them some of the rarest skins in League of Legends.
Like Silver Kayle, the Young Ryze skin, which shows a more human version of the champion, was available by purchasing the League of Legends Collector's Edition. In this case, however, you could only get what is now the rarest Ryze skin in the game by pre-ordering a copy of the game's Collector's Edition at the time.
The last of the Collector's Edition exclusive skins is Black Alistar. This skin was only available to players who bought a digital copy of the game's Collector's Edition. This makes the gorgeous Black Alistar skin one of the very rarest in the entire game.
The 2009-2011 PAX trio
PAX Twisted Fate, the most valuable of the three PAX skins, was distributed at the 2009 event, making it incredibly rare and a significant collector's item.
For the 2010 iteration of the event, the reward was the PAX Jax skin. The skin was updated in 2023, but it is still only available to players who attended the event back in 2010.
The last of the three PAX skins in League of Legends, PAX Sivir was granted to players who attended the event in 2011. It was the first of the PAX skins to be updated, and remains a fan favorite despite its scarcity.
The first Limited Edition skins
King Rammus, an obvious nod to Nintendo's Bowser, was a gift from Riot to players who participated in the game's closed beta prior to its release in 2009. The King Rammus skin has not been made available since, and is one of the rarest skins in all of League of Legends.
Yet another skin that rewarded all early birds. UFO Corki was available to all those who created an account in League of Legends before January 14th, 2010.
Though it has been reworked to offer a polished and modern look, Judgment Kayle is an incredibly rare skin. Judgment Kayle was made available only to players who played 10 or more ranked games during the very first season of League of Legends, all the way back in 2010.
Due to its rarity and clean looks, Judgment Kayle is one of the most highly valued skins in the entire game.
The early Victorious skins
The Victorious skin line rewards players who finished the competitive League of Legends season ranked Gold or higher. Traditionally, it was only a single skin per year, though that changed in 2023.
The Victorious skin line was first introduced to the game in 2011 with the Victorious Jarvan IV skin. Several of the Victorious skins from the early League of Legends seasons are incredibly rare today, making them objects of desire.
Below are all the Victorious skins released to date:
- 2011 Season: Victorious Jarvan IV
- 2012 Season: Victorious Janna
- 2013 Season: Victorious Elise
- 2014 Season: Victorious Morgana
- 2015 Season: Victorious Sivir
- 2016 Season: Victorious Maokai
- 2017 Season: Victorious Graves
- 2018 Season: Victorious Orianna
- 2019 Season: Victorious Aatrox
- 2020 Season: Victorious Lucian
- 2021 Season: Victorious Blitzcrank
- 2022 Season: Victorious Sejuani
- 2023 Season: Victorious Anivia and Victorious Tryndamere
The outlier - Rusty Blitzcrank
To end this list, we have one skin whose history is a little different from the rest. After the initial release of League of Legends towards the end of 2009, Rusty Blitzcrank stood available for purchase for just three months. In the end, the skin had to be removed from the store for being too similar to the original Blitzcrank look. For that reason, Rusty Blitzcrank is incredibly rare in the League of Legends today.
Ultimately, several of the skins on this list represent more than a cool way to show off your champion's looks, they're simply a part of League of Legends history. If you ever come across one of these skins, or happen to own yourself, make sure you cherish the opportunity.
