The team that took Rocket League by storm
Even though Rocket League is relatively new and upcoming compared to a lot of games in the esports scene, the pro scene is seemingly forever gaining popularity, particularly among younger gaming fans. Moist Esports have been in the realm of gaming for a long time now and are making some real waves in Rocket League.
As the new season of opens begin, teams are going to be putting their best strategies forward. While more famous teams such as G2 and FaZe did finish higher at Worlds, lesser known teams like Moist are sneaking up through the wings and staking their claim in Rocket League.
Back at the beginning of July, Moist Esports were competing for the title of the Spring Split Major and managed to take the crown after a couple of weeks of hard gaming. Despite the fact that some of the top esports orgs in the world, including Team Liquid, FaZe Clan and Team Secret, were also in attendance, Moist fought their way through.
Things began well for Moist as they entered the upper bracket. However, they were defeated 3 - 1 by Version1 in the quarterfinals. From there, it was a tough fight through the lower bracket that saw Moist defeat Pioneers, Team Liquid, Spacestation and Karmine before getting their revenge on Version1 by decimating them 4 - 0.
The finals was a real nail biter between Moist and Falcons, which finally saw Moist take the win 3 - 4. They earned a huge $90,000 prize and took 801 points that qualified them to the group stage of the World Championship.
After being seeded straight into the group stage, Moist Esports began with what seemed like a pretty easy journey through the upper bracket. They defeated both Spacestation and SMPR Esports without too much trouble and ended up in the playoffs.
However, this is where things started to go a little downhill for the first time. There was another really close match between Furia that ultimately ended in Moist losing by a hair and being eliminated from the quarterfinals.
The first time fans will be seeing Moist Esports since their run at Worlds is at the European region Fall open starting on October 14th. After a string of wins, they can come into the competition feeling fairly confident. Their first match will be against Goldbridge Ball, a British team who have only been playing together for a few months.
Hopefully this will just be the beginning for Moist, who have been successful in a number of other games including Super Smash Bros and Apex Legends.
