The Ultimate List of Easter Eggs in League of Legends
Easter eggs in video games have become a fun way for developers to reward players for accomplishing a random and sometimes skillful feat. In League of Legends, there are more than several Easter eggs planted in the game. This article will dive into the Easter eggs currently present in the game and provide the ultimate list of easter eggs in LoL.
What is an Easter Egg?
An Easter egg is a hidden message, image, or reference tied in a story or video game. In terms of video games, it is subtle and does not impact the overall gameplay. In League of Legends, these Easter eggs come in various forms. They can be discovered whilst playing a casual game in Summoner's Rift, or sometimes found in a hidden file with the game's download.
Objective Easter eggs
Secondary Objective Easter eggs are found while playing in either Summoner's Rift or Howling Abyss. They consist of lore-related objectives that are triggered when a group of specific champions are selected in the same game. Completing the objective grants a minor buff to the respective player. The following is a list of objective easter eggs with an explanation on how to trigger the event and what the reward for each champion is.
The Hunt Is On! (Rengar vs Kha'Zix)
The Hunt is On! objective triggers when Rengar and Kha'Zix are on opposing teams. If they are, Rengar must have five trophies for his passive and Kha'Zix must be at least level 16 with three abilities evolved. After these conditions are met, the game will trigger the objective at a random time. When triggered, Rengar's and Kha'Zix's first and next takedown on each other will complete the objective. Note, if Rengar or Kha'Zix has completed the objective before the other, the objective for the losing player will terminate the event.
The rewards for each is as follows:
Rengar
If Rengar takes down Kha'Zix, Rengar will receive the "Head of Kha'Zix" which provides a sixth stack for his Bonetooth Necklace. This provides Rengar with an extra 11% bonus attack damage in which the passive in total provides 36% bonus attack damage. The following quote is also attached to Rengar.
"This twisted monster has evaded me for too long. I will have his head!"
Kha'Zix
If Kha'Zix takes down Rengar, Kha'Zix will receive a fourth evolution point. This will allow Kha'Zix to have all of his abilities evolved. The following quote is also attached to Kha'Zix.
"I have grown and adapted since I took his eye. I will feast on lion!"
Sentinels of Light (Senna/Lucian vs Thresh)
Sentinels of Light event will become available when Senna and Thresh are on opposing teams. The additional required conditions for this event to trigger is when Senna has collected 100 Mist stacks for her passive and Thresh has collected 40 souls for his passive. Note that having Lucian on Senna's team is not required but it will activate an additional event for Lucian.
When the Sentinels of Light event triggers, Senna/Lucian and Thresh will be notified to take each other down. Once one side takes the other down, they will receive a reward. The rewards for each is as follows:
Senna/Lucian
If Thresh dies at the hands of either Senna or Lucian, they will receive some of Thresh's power which is equivalent to +30 ability power and +30 armor. The following quote is attached to both Senna and Lucian during the game in which the event will trigger:
"Sentinels of Light don't fear the dark."
Thresh has finally been allowed to pass. This unit absorbed some of his power gaining +30 ability power and +30 armor.
Thresh
If Senna or Lucian dies with Thresh securing a kill or acquiring an assist on the kill, he will imprison Senna's/Lucian's soul and gain some of their power. The power gained is equivalent to +30 attack damage, +40 attack range, and +20% critical strike chance. The following quote is attached to Thresh when he successfully accomplishes the objective:
"Oh the eternity we shall spend together."
When Senna is taken down by Thresh, the following quote is attached to him:
"Poor Senna, nobody escapes the lantern."
Thresh has recaptured her soul and absorbed some of her power gaining +30 attack damage, +40 attack range, and +20% critical strike chance.
The following quote is attached to Thresh when he takes down Lucian:
"Poor Lucian, he was never able to find peace."
Thresh has imprisoned his soul and absorbed some of his power gaining +30 attack damage, +40 attack range, and +20% critical strike chance.
Golden Ratio (Hwei vs Jhin)
The Golden Ratio event activates when Hwei and Jhin are on opposing teams in a game. The event is triggered when both Hwei and Jhin reach level 12 and are both alive at the same time. The event terminates once either Jhin or Hwei has acquired a take down on one another using their ultimate ability. The rewards provided for gaining achieving this is as follows.
Hwei
Once Hwei kills Jhin with his ultimate ability, Spiraling Despair, Hwei will be rewarded with the Golden Artist status. This earns Hwei 3.33% magic penetration. The following is the text attached to Hwei once he completes the objective successfully:
Hwei made Jhin witness the depths of visionary mind, earning 3.33% Magic penetration.
"Understand, Jhin. Understand pain, and peace, and art-like I do now."
If Hwei loses the objective to Jhin, the following text is attached to Hwei:
Hwei fell to Jhin's machinations, making Hwei unable to reach his fullpotential
"Was I always meant to fall to Jhin? Was there any hope? I... I..."
Jhin
Once Jhin kills Hwei with his ultimate ability, Curtain Call, he will rewarded with the Golden Artist status. This will earn Jhin 4.444 lethality. The following text is attached to Jhin once he successfully completes the objective:
Jhin made Hwei into his virtuosic magnum opus, earning 4.444 Lethality.
"Our fourth and final act draws to a close. The painter falls, and I arise the maestro of death."
If Jhin loses to Hwei, the following text is attached to Jhin:
Jhin was surpassed by Hwei's artistry, making Jhin unable to reach his full potential
"Hwei struck beneath my mask. How... novel, how dreadful, a denouement."
The Darkin Scythe (Rhaast vs Kayn)
This event can show up as a secondary objective but is only triggered when Kayn is in the game. Additionally, only Kayn can see this event where he must choose to either have Kayn or his counterpart Rhaast completely control the body. This event is smaller and is more of a reminder for Kayn players to choose a dominant entity to further their gameplay.
Champion Cosmetic Easter Eggs
Cosmetic easter eggs are easter eggs that do not give additional power due to an event or secondary objective. Instead it acts as a little teaser text attached to select champions when specific conditions are met. The following is an ultimate list of champion related cosmetic easter eggs in LoL.
Caitlyn - Vi - Jinx
These select champions each have interactions with one another.
Agitated (Caitlyn)
Caitlyn becomes "agitated" when either Vi or Jinx performs their respective taunts directed at Caitlyn. An icon titled "Agitated" will show when this occurs and will last until Caitlyn dies or damages the champion that taunted her.
On the Case (Caitlyn and Vi)
This cosmetic Easter egg pops up as an icon on both Caitlyn and Vi when they are present on the same team. Caitlyn and Vi each gain an icon titled "On the Case". Additionally, both Caitlyn and Vi receive 1 extra gold per takedown that they achieved together. For example, if Vi killed an enemy champion with Caitlyn assisting her, they will both gain an additional gold. The following quote is a flavor text attached to the icon.
"Piltover's Finest"
Catch Me if You Can (Caitlyn/Vi vs Jinx)
When Jinx is on the opposing team of Vi and/or Caitlyn, an icon appears attached to each respective champion titled "Catch Me if You Can". There is also a counter that appears under the text for each champion that shows how many takedowns they have achieved against each other. For instance, if Jinx achieves a takedown on Caitlyn and Vi who are on the opposing team, this counter will increase by two. This works vice versa where if Vi and Caitlyn share a takedown against an enemy Jinx, they will each receive an increment of 1 on the counter. Additionally, each takedown that works with this Easter egg will provide an additional 1 gold. The following quote is the flavor text attached to the icon for Caitlyn and Vi.
"Jinx is causing chaos again... how obnoxious. Criminals apprehended: (takedown counter)"
The following quote is the flavor text attached to the icon for Jinx.
"Cait and Vi are chasing you. How fun! Cops outsmarted: (takedown counter)"
Ekko - Zeri
Zaunite Ingenuity (Ekko and Zeri)
Similar to how Caitlyn and Vi's "On The Case" cosmetic Easter egg works, Ekko and Zeri share an icon with a counter for every takedown they share. Additionally, for each takedown they share, they will each be rewarded with one gold. The following is the flavor text that is shown on the icon for the Easter egg.
"Kids from the Undercity stick together"
Heimerdinger
Eureka! (Heimerdinger)
The cosmetic Easter egg that only Heimerdinger can receive is one that is triggered when he gets a pentakill. Note that there does not need to be any other additional champions to be present in the game for this cosmetic Easter egg to trigger. Once Heimerdinger achieves a pentakill, he will receive a "Eureka!" icon attached to his character that lasts for 25 seconds. The following is the flavor text attached to the icon.
"Heimerdinger has solved the problem of having enemies who are still alive. Using careful experimentation, he has adjusted their 'alive' status. FOR SCIENCE!"
Twisted Fate
Destiny, Interrupted
This cosmetic Easter egg only requires Twisted Fate and an enemy champion that has an ability that afflicts nearsight. To trigger "Destiny, Interrupted", Twisted Fate must have his ultimate ability, Destiny, active and be inflicted with nearsight. When this happens, an icon attaches itself to Twisted Fate for 5 seconds. The following flavor text is what is shown when "Destiny, Interrupted" activates.
"Betting blind. Literally"
Non-Champion Cosmetic Easter Eggs
The following is an ultimate list of non-champion related cosmetic easter eggs in LoL.
Distinguished Order of Ward Longevity and Health (Control Ward)
The control ward cosmetic Easter egg triggers only when a ward has been placed and remains alive for at least 2 and a half minutes. Once this happens, an icon is attached to it and the control ward itself will become sparkly-like. The following flavor text is what appears when hovering over the icon.
"Perhaps this ward has been protected. Perhaps it has merely sat in a disused lane. Whatever the case, it has persisted for eons in ward years and joins an ancient regal order of Wrds that have lasted a really really really long time."
Win The Game (Practice Tool)
This cosmetic Easter egg does not occur in any live game but in the practice tool. When in the practice tool, there is a "Win the Game" function that when pressed, the game ends with the following text appearing over the player character.
"My only way to see that Victory screen."
Nickname Easter Eggs
Nickname Easter eggs are shown in-game chat and in the search text box in the game's shop (not the client shop). The following is the ultimate list of nicknames found in the game.
In-Game Chat
Eggnivia (Anivia)
When a player pings Anivia's icon in-game while she is in her Rebirth passive, the champion name "Anivia" is replaced to "Eggnivia".
Mega Gnar (Gnar)
When Gnar is pinged in the game while he is in his alternate form due to the passive Rage Gene, the champion name "Gnar" is changed to "Mega Gnar".
Polymorph (Lulu)
Lulu's "Whimsy" ability polymorphs an enemy champion into a small and defenceless animal for a short period of time. When you ping the polymorphed champion, their name would temporarily be replaced with "Harmless Critter". Fun fact, before Viego's launch, each and every Lulu skin would produce a different name for the polymorph. The list of different names were "Squill", "Cupcake", "Kitty", "Dragon", and "Snowman".
Item Search Terms
Pink Ward (Control Ward)
Pink ward refers to the previous colloquial name for the "Vision Ward" before it changed to "Control Ward". This nickname was also in reference to the color of the "Vision ward".
Noxian (Dark Seal)
Noxian refers to the region Noxus in LoL lore. It is associating the dark seal's background to the region.
Pink (Duskblade of Draktharr)
Pink references the previous version of the control ward which was "Vision Ward". Due to the ward being pink and Duskblade of Draktharr's previous passive effect, Blackout, which would partly act as a control ward, the nickname pink can direct a player to this item for its effect.
Golden Bicep/Arm of Kobe (Guardian's Horn)
The Golden Bicep (or Arm) of Kobe references the mistake that LCS caster Sam "Kobe" Hartman-Kenzler made when he believed the icon of Guardian's Horn was a bicep.

Skin Teaser Easter Eggs
Occasionally, Riot Games will tease a new skin in files of League of Legends. These files are typically text files and are typically found by players who do a lot of data mining on the game. The following is a list of skins that were teased through files or other means.
Gun Goddess Miss Fortune
The skin, Gun Goddess Miss Fortune, was found established as a Steel Valkyrie hidden in a text file of Bullet Angel Kai'Sa.

Champion Interaction Easter Eggs
Many champions have special interactions with each other whether through taunting or brushing close to one another. While there are hundreds of these interactions through dialogue, there are few that are subtle. The following is an ultimate list of game interactions that are hardly noticeable.
Popstar Ahri & K/DA Skinline
If Popstar Ahri or any champion with a K/DA skin line dances in front of Blue Sentinel, it will dance alongside the champion.

- First animation will play if the player presses Ctrl + 1 twice. This animation shows Naafiri being pet on the head by a Legacy cursor hand.
- Second animation will play if the player presses Ctrl + 1 right after the first animation ends. The animation shows Naafiri being petted on the neck before falling on her back.
- Third animation will play if the player presses Ctrl + 3 right after the second animation ends. The animation shows Naafiri being rubbed on her belly while still lying down.
Pressing Ctrl + 3 at the end of the third animation will repeatedly show the third animation as long as the player keeps following the third step.

Volibear & Zilean
Zilean gains 1 ability power for every Volibear within 800 range of him. Vice versa, Volibear gains 1 armor for every enemy Zilean within 800 range of him. This is to reference Tom "Zileas" Cadwell's oppositional perspective on having an armored bear as a champion in the game.
