Top 5 Mid Laners at Worlds 2024: Does Faker still have what it takes?
It is time! Join us as we finish our top 5 lists by ranking some of the biggest and most influential names in the game, our Worlds 2024 mid laners.
It is worth noting that LNG's Scout was not taken into account for the making of this list, with the latest reports indicating that LNG will have to field Yagao in place of the South Korean star due to the mid laner's travel ban. The news is nothing short of heartbreaking for Scout, a player who put up an amazing performance at the LPL Regional Finals to take his team to Worlds.
As always, the list will be based off of the players' current form, capacity to perform under pressure, influence in their teams, champion pools and expected Worlds meta affinity.
5. Faker (T1)
Words cannot do justice to Faker's unrelenting legacy in League of Legends and esports as a whole.
Admittedly, though, Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok may not have found a place among the top 5 mid laners at Worlds had Scout been allowed to play.
As things stand, however, the greatest League of Legends player of all time comes into Worlds 2024 as the fifth best mid laner at the tournament.
Faker and T1 may be at an uncharacteristic low point, but that did not stop them from showing up in the clutch to earn their ticket to Worlds all the same. And though his stats may be down, Faker should be pleased with the direction the mid lane meta is expected to take for the tournament.
A four time World Champion, can Faker's inevitability shine through once more?
4. Caps (G2)
Rasmus "Caps" Winther trailed Humanoid in almost every meaningful stat at the LEC Season Finals. The greatest European player of all time, however, stands above statistics.
Seemingly able to perform for his team during any meta imaginable, Caps is G2's winning talisman. With the Danish mid laner at the helm, G2 has won the LEC a mind-boggling 14 times.
Although Worlds 2024 will be held in Europe, Caps' competition will stem from the very best leagues across the globe. It is time to dance with the big boys now.
3. Zeka (HLE)
Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo's clutch factor appears simply unparalleled. The South Korean mid laner shocked Faker and T1 by winning Worlds 2022 against all odds.
Just two weeks ago, he did it again by taking the LCK Summer trophy away from Gen.G despite his opponent's record-breaking form. For his amazing performance in the series, Zeka earned the Finals MVP award.
When the stakes are high, Zeka is ready to put it all on the line for his team. Does he have it in him to come up clutch one more time at Worlds 2024?
2. knight (BLG)
Where to start with Ding "knight" Zhuo? After nearly completing the Golden Road with JD Gaming in 2023, the Chinese mid laner came into BLG in 2024 and simply ran over the competition.
You'd be forgiven for thinking knight played against toddlers at the LPL Summer Playoffs, as he finished the tournament to lead all mid laners in KDA (7.18), Kills per Game (6.1), CS per Minute (10.26) and Gold per Minute (489).
At this year's Worlds, BLG boasts a roster so strong that just about any one can show up and decide to carry.
And yet, knight will face some of his toughest opposition yet at Worlds 2024. If he wants to take his team all the way, knight will need to make sure he does not fall asleep at the wheel.
1. Chovy (GEN)
Simply put, lane kingdom begins and ends with Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon. An oppressive machine built to suffocate his lane opponent, there has never been a player quite like Chovy in the mid lane.
Like Caps, Chovy has shown he can play just about anything, and play it well. With Worlds patch (14.18) changing a lot of things for mid laners, versatility will be a valuable asset for Gen.G to have at Worlds 2024.
Despite Chovy's undeniable skill and longevity, he has never won Worlds, however. At this year's tournament, the South Korean mid laner will be hungrier than ever to prove, once and for all, that he can also dominate on the biggest stage in the game.
