Topson: ‘Dota 2 was more interesting with just one courier’
DreamLeague Season 21 is the last major Dota 2 tournament before teams head off to The International 12 (TI12). It is also notable for featuring the return of two-time International champion Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen.
In a recent video interview published by DreamLeague, Topson revealed how he relaxes in Dota 2, his feelings towards couriers, and the best moments in his life so far.
Topson thinks Dota 2 was better with one courier per team
Back in the dark days of Dota 2, couriers needed to be bought from the shop and then upgraded. That responsibility, not surprisingly, fell on the supports.
Nearly four years ago, IceFrog released Dota 2 patch 7.23, which provided each player with a free courier. There was much rejoicing, mostly from support players.
The change from a single courier for the entire team, to a courier for each player led to a smoother gaming experience, especially in pub games.
Not everyone loved the change though, and Topson has officially added his name to the list of people who prefer having just one critter working overtime to deliver items for the entire team.
"The five couriers in Dota, I think that's a bit controversial. I feel like it was more interesting with one courier. There was like this courier aspect of the game, like you had to [decide] who gets to use the courier and when. It's like a team thing, how good are you at courier usage, that aspect of the game is gone."
Topson: ‘Becoming a father was one of the most exciting moments in life’
During the interview, the midlaner for Tundra Esports was asked what were the unforgettable moments in his life so far and Topson boiled it down to two critical experiences.
"Joining OG, yeah it was very exciting, I mean that's probably one of them, and of course becoming a father, that was one of the most exciting moments also."
It takes a lot of work to play Dota 2 competitively, especially while juggling a family as well. To cope with all that stress, Topson found an interesting way to relax.
"There's some mid-heroes that I want to play that are awful. That's like my guilty pleasure. Sometimes I bust out some Bane or Dazzle mid. I feel sorry for my teammates once they lose but I tried to have some fun."
At least we now know who to blame the next time we see a mid-Bane in our pubs. Thanks a lot, Topson.
Topson and the rest of Tundra Esports are currently competing in DreamLeague season 21. Dota 2 fans can catch all the action live on Twitch.
