In the third week of VCT Pacific league, Team Secret faced GenG in a best-of-three series. The match started well for Team Secret but despite the amazing performance they could not close the series. GenG defeated Team Secret 2-0 on the back of amazing performances by TS and K1ng. But Team Secret weren’t fazed by the loss and they will come back stronger in the next week. After the game Strafe had an opportunity to interview Team Secret’s Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan. In an exclusive one-on-one interview TS DubsteP talks about the game, his role change and more.

Q. What are your thoughts on the loss?

TS DubsteP: “I guess they won so many clutches that we couldn’t recover. It’s one of those days where everything goes right their way”

Q. You (Team Secret) were in control of Fracture, but could not close it, what went wrong there?

TS DubsteP: “I think GenG is really good at reading defensive setups. They adapted really well. They also won most of the executions. The way they are playing is not stale. They don’t stay on the same game plan but switch up a lot. Their composition also is a composition which aids their flexibility.

Q. You (Team Secret) started well on Haven but struggled in the mid game, Why do you think so?

TS DubsteP: “I think one of the biggest things on Haven were the 1v1s and the 2v2s, they won like 60-70% of clutches. For me Haven was close but we couldn’t capitalize on the rounds we were supposed to win.”

Q. How do you(DubsteP) handle clutch situations?

TS DubsteP: “I guess, knowing what to do and knowing the timings. For me winning the clutch is 50-50. So if you have a better read, the luckier read you’d win the clutch.”

Q. You play(DubsteP) two different roles Jett and Sentinels, How did you adapt to your new role?

TS DubsteP: “When I was playing duelist I helped my teammate with the Sentinel role. Knowing how my teammate played. I think that helped me a lot. I have been playing sentinel for a while now, so it is just like playing on the back, making sure you are alive, finding information on your teammates and more. It’s not as flashy as the duelist where you have to make space for the team, it’s really like the polar opposite.”

Q. You(DubsteP) excel at both Killjoy and Cypher, both different agents. How do you practice for these agents?

TS DubsteP: “One of my inspirations for playing Cypher is nAts. I don’t copy him but I learned a lot looking at how he plays. It’s not perfect but I am trying to integrate the Cypher in my game”

Q. Does playing Jett on some map affect your(DubsteP) performance at all?

TS DubsteP: “I don’t think it affects me much. Because I played Jett for the majority of my career, I don’t think playing Jett affects my performance at all because I can play Jett with my eyes closed”

Q. Does playing Jett help you(DubsteP) with countering the agent?

TS DubsteP: “It makes me understand most setups. Playing sentinel also helps my Jett. It’s really helpful to know how the opponent may react based on the setup”

Q. What are your(DubsteP) thoughts on the map rotation?

TS DubsteP: “I am quite excited, Icebox has been stale. It always has been the Killjoy, the Viper, the Jett, the Sage. It’s always these agents. The Meta has been either that or Harbor. So Bind will bring the creative side of Valorant and it’ll be fun because new updates are always fun”

Q. How do you keep up with the changing Valorant meta?

TS DubsteP: “I guess playing more than you should be playing. If you want to understand something you have to put in effort. It’s like normal sport If you wanna get good you have to keep doing it”

Q. What are your(DubsteP) expectations from the season?

TS DubsteP: “Ofcourse, I expect me and my team to qualify for Masters Tokyo and the grind doesn’t stop here”

Q. Who do you(DubsteP) think will be the toughest opponent apart from DRX?

TS DubsteP: “I think Global Esports, they are really good”
