VALORANT is entering an exciting new era as it celebrates its 5th anniversary with Season 2025 and the always-expected VALORANT dev updates bring a comprehensive overview of what players can expect in the coming months, covering various aspects of the game from agents to esports.

Valorant to Introduce 2 More New Agents in 2025

John Goscicki, the Agents Lead, revealed that three new agents will be joining the roster in 2025:

  • Tejo, a Colombian initiator, is described as a "man of action" with a strategic, top-down focused playstyle. Goscicki explains, "We really want you to move or die."
  • Two more agents are planned for later in the year, which Goscicki describes as "heavy hitters."

Existing agents will also see balance adjustments:

  • ISO will receive a "power budget redistribution" on his kit.
  • Neon may see balance adjustments following her changes in patch 9.11.
  • Deadlock will get adjustments to her sound sensors and a boost to her aggressive potential.
  • Harbor will undergo changes to make him more enjoyable and increase his pick rate.

Gameplay and Live Balance

Dan Hardison, Live Design Balance Lead, and Tippi, Product Manager, discussed updates to gameplay mechanics:

  • The team is focusing on maintaining Valorant's tactical roots, emphasizing gameplay clarity and audio improvements.
  • Skill cap will remain high to reward player investment in both strategic and mechanical aspects.
  • Recent accuracy changes to gunplay and movement have been implemented to increase the skill cap.

Premium Content

Preeti Pinto, Product Lead for Expressions, and Sean Marino, Art Director, both shared in the Valorant Dev Updates a new cosmetic category called FLEX items:

  • FLEX is a new equippable item that players can hold in their hands at any moment in the game.
  • It's designed to be as expressive as a melee weapon but without gameplay constraints.
  • The team plans to add various types of FLEX items throughout the year.
  • The addition of new guns to niche skin lines.
  • A new sci-fi skin line called Ex.o, featuring a digital katana and cyber finisher.
  • Special cosmetics to commemorate Valorant's fifth anniversary.

Competitive and Ranked Systems: VALORANT Introduces 'Rank Armor'

Stephen Kraman, Product Lead for Competitive Systems, announced several changes to the ranked experience:

  • A new "Rank Armor" will provide buffer games before deranking from major rank brackets.
  • Players will receive rating refunds for matches lost to confirmed cheaters.
  • Ranks will reset at the beginning of the season and again at a mid-season point.
  • The remake system will now automatically initiate a vote when a player abandons the match in the first round, requiring only three "YES" votes.

Player Behavior

Marcus Reid, Product Engineering Lead, addressed ongoing efforts to improve player behavior and game integrity:

  • Warning notices were sent to over half a million repeat disruptors, resulting in a 25% drop in expected repeat disruption rates.
  • Voice evaluation services have been launched globally, with only Korea remaining. The team is working on adding support for additional languages, with Spanish currently furthest along.

Replays

Reid also provided an in-depth update on the replay system, focusing on the challenges related to lag compensation:

  • The server continuously records its view of the game to capture replays, ensuring no reduction in client performance and providing the most accurate representation of events.
  • Lag compensation can cause discrepancies between what players see during gameplay and what appears in replays, especially in high-ping situations.
  • Development team is actively discussing how to visualize these scenarios in replays, balancing accuracy with player experience. He promised another update on the replay system later in the year.

Map Pool and overall Esports

Tippi announced that the map pool will rotate every act in 2025, with two maps leaving and two entering for patch 10.00. This frequency may change throughout the year.

Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, shared exciting updates for the competitive scene:

  • Each international league will now have 12 teams, up from 11.
  • Five new squads will join from the Ascension Leagues:
    • Apeks
    • Sin Prisa Gaming
    • BOOM Esports
    • 2game Esports
    • Xi Lai Gaming
  • Upcoming events include Masters Bangkok, Masters Toronto, and Champions Paris.
  • A new season capsule with a fresh melee weapon will be available.
  • Changes to the International Leagues format, including a new group stage and playoffs structure.
  • Revised Championship points system and Champions qualification process.
