VALORANT introduces new cosmetic item “FLEX” for 2025
We’re six days into the new year and VALORANT has already delivered our first present of the year. Starting with the launch of Episode 10 Act 1 on January 8th, a new cosmetic item, FLEX will be introduced as an equipable cosmetic on the Spray Wheel, taking one of the slots that players can equip sprays on.
VALORANT is Adding Another Cosmetic you can Fiddle
Like we know with melee weapons, spammability is really important. We wanted to take that whole experience and put that into its own content type. - Sean Marino, Art Director & Expressions // Riot Games
In Episode 10, VALORANT will be introducing a new equippable cosmetic item spawned from the idea of carrying something ‘satisfying’ into battle. It’s VALORANT’s way of introducing a stress ball or fidget spinner in-game as it were.
A Whole New Line of Cosmetics
The introduction of FLEX is the first new addition to cosmetics since the game launches. Other examples of cosmetics include weapon skins, sprays, player cards, player titles and buddies. While player titles and cards can’t be carried into the game, Flexes will be accompanying you. Nervous in a clutch or nothing to do while jump peeking the same angle 50 million times? Now you have something to fidget with as you wait for the play to come to you.
2 Flexes will be introduced to the game at the start, one which every player will receive for free and another through the paid track on Episode 10 Act 1’s Battlepass. The free Flex takes the form of what appears to be a communicator or pad complete with a slide-up functionality. Players will be able to inspect it, triggering a flip animation, or ‘fidget’ to flip between the two screens, one displaying your player card and title, and the other, your current agent.
The paid Flex takes the shape of a snowflake. Interacting with it will allow you to ‘spin’ it on its vertical axis. From the clip, it appears interacting with it can manipulate the rotation speed as well, similar to other melee weapons such as the RGX 11z Pro Firefly.
With this move, it opens up an entirely new avenue of profitability for Riot Games and another potential way for players to distinguish themselves in-game.
