The VALORANT Champions Tour is undergoing significant changes in 2024, particularly in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. As part of the recent announcements outlining substantial updates to the global Challengers ecosystem, Riot Games is introducing a consolidated approach for Southeast Asia. This article delves into these changes and their implications for the regional leagues.

Introducing VCT Challengers Southeast Asia

One of the most notable changes is the alignment of Challengers leagues with their respective Premier Zones. In APAC, this involves unifying the Southeast Asian markets into a single league.

Previously, Southeast Asia had six separate leagues covering Indonesia, Malaysia/Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan/Hong Kong. Starting from September 2024, these markets will be consolidated into one regional league: VCT Challengers Southeast Asia (SEA).

The introduction of VCT Challengers Southeast Asia is expected to bring numerous benefits to the community. For professional teams, it provides a more premium platform centered around international matchups. This structure will push teams to test their skills beyond their usual domestic pools, raising the overall level of competition.

For partners, a unified Southeast Asian league offers a more stable and meaningful product to collaborate with long-term.

Qualification and Structure

  • Teams currently competing in the affected markets will qualify for the new Challengers SEA based on their performance in Split 2 of this year.
  • Winning teams will be seeded directly into the Challengers SEA format alongside top Premier teams.
  • Top-ranking teams may earn direct slots.
  • The remaining Challengers Split 2 participants will enter the Invite tier of Premier, competing for a second chance at qualifying.

Extending the VCT Challengers Calendar in APAC

In response to community feedback, the Challengers calendar will be extended to three splits this year. This change aims to provide teams and players with more stability and opportunities to compete and hone their skills. The final split will launch after Ascension, marking the formal integration of Premier teams into the Challengers leagues across APAC.

Details about the formats for Split 3 in APAC will be revealed by regional partners. Here are some brief details for each league:
