Patch 9.08 is just around the corner, and with it comes the kickoff of Episode 9 Act 3 in VALORANT. Unlike some previous updates, this one is set to bring more significant changes, including updates to agents, maps, and the game’s overall meta.

While the official patch notes haven’t been released yet, here’s everything we know so far from developer teasers and community insights.

Agent Updates: Minor Adjustments, Major Teasers

The VALORANT team has hinted at changes coming for some of the weaker Sentinels and Controllers in patch 9.08. However, don't expect any major overhauls just yet, as Phoenix is set to receive more substantial changes in patch 9.10.

Gekko Balance Updates:

Gekko has been a central part of the meta during the year. The dizzy will flash a bit faster and will also affect the minimap. Similarly, wingman's effectiveness is also increased in the update.  In exchange the overall time to pick-up each individual creatures after deployment is increased.

The changes are as follows:

  • Dizzy
    • Time active after being thrown and forming is reduced 1.5s >>> 1s
    • Targeting is more reliable
    • Goop flash now also blinds the minimap of affected players
  • Wingman
    • Increased angle of the cone concuss
    • New visual for planting
  • Thrash
    • Ultimate points increased 7 >>> 8
  • Globule (Gekko Utility on ground)
    • Reduced time in world 20s >>> 15s
    • Reclaim time increased 1s >>> 1.5s

Map Changes

Sunset Map Changes: Balancing B Site

The B site on Sunset is one of the most retake-friendly sites in the game. In patch 9.08, Riot Games aims to balance B site, making it more defensible, and encouraging a shift in strategy from the current Cypher-heavy meta.

B Site Adjustments:

  • The divider screen in B Main is shifted to the left, providing new angles and changing how attackers push into site.

  • The pillar is now redesigned with a caved section for extra cover, giving players more safety while holding or retaking.
  • An additional wall has been added to the platform for enhanced protection, making it easier for defenders to hold their ground.

  • The elevated box near the Boba entry is now moved to the platform, changing the dynamics of cover when moving into site.

Mid Changes:

The iconic tree near the attackers' side of mid is gone, replaced by a box. This provides better cover for aggressive pushes.

These are the first significant updates to Sunset since its release, and they aim to diversify how the map is played, encouraging different team compositions and strategies.

Glitch: The Newest Team Deathmatch Map

Introducing Glitch, the latest addition to VALORANT’s Team Deathmatch map pool. Set in a “glitched out” Maxbot arena, this dual-themed battleground offers fast-paced 5v5 action.

As the fifth TDM-specific map, it features a symmetrical layout with three key lanes: a tower for strategic positioning, an enclosed outer lane for close combat, and a powerful mid lane that controls the map. Open spawns help prevent spawn camping, ensuring smoother gameplay. Additionally, hidden Easter eggs provide extra fun for players to discover. Glitch delivers a fresh, tactical experience to the TDM mode in VALORANT.

Map Pool Rotation: Pearl and Split Return

With every new act comes a rotation of the competitive map pool, and patch 9.08 is no different. Icebox and Lotus will be rotating out, while Pearl and Split make a return.

The updated map pool will include:

  • Ascent
  • Sunset
  • Haven
  • Bind
  • Abyss
  • Pearl (Returning)
  • Split (Returning)

This rotation is sure to excite many players, especially those who have been eager to see Split’s return after a long hiatus.

Fresh in the Market: Doombringer Skinline

No new act is complete without a fresh bundle in the store, and patch 9.08 introduces the Doombringer skinline. Riot have released a teaser, and a video showing off the finisher, the skins seem to feature a dark and sci-fi theme, something that wouldn't look out of place in the Warhammer 40k universe. Perfect for those who prefer a more intimidating look on the battlefield.

Alongside the Doombringer skinline, players can expect a new Battlepass, with a Phantom and Operator as its star weapons.

Release Date and Timing

Patch 9.08 is set to go live on Tuesday, October 22, or Wednesday, October 23, depending on your region. North American, LATAM, and Brazilian servers can expect the rollout to begin around 6:00 am PT, while European servers will see the update around 4:00 am BST or 5:00 am CET on Wednesday.

A short maintenance period will likely precede the patch release, during which servers may go offline for preparations.

Get ready for the exciting changes coming with Episode 9 Act 3. Whether you’re eager to try the new map adjustments or showcase the Doombringer skins, there’s plenty to look forward to in patch 9.08!
