Valve confirms Armory Pass is Here to Stay
Into The Breach streamer, Sara "Sarzi," recently contacted Valve to clarify the mechanics of CS2’s Armory Update. Specifically, she sought answers about the Armory Pass and the nature of its cosmetic collections. Sarzi's email, addressed to Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, expressed the community's confusion over the duration of these collections and the accessibility of items once the Armory event concluded.
In her message, she asked whether collection items would remain available after the event, either through future Armory Passes or weekly drops. Sarzi also questioned whether the Desert Eagle | Heat Treated would be obtainable through other means, or if it would disappear entirely.
Valve responded, clarifying that while the Desert Eagle | Heat Treated has a limited-time availability, the Armory itself is not time-restricted. "The Armory Passes and stars do not have an expiration date," the developer explained. However, they hinted that changes to the Armory could come, with announcements made publicly when they do.
The Future of CS2 Cosmetics
For skin traders, Sarzi’s inquiry and Valve’s response are crucial. The uncertainty over the availability of Armory items could dramatically affect the value of skins. Many fear that if cosmetics remain indefinitely available, their value could plummet, leading some players to reconsider investing in Armory Passes.
People in the community have also started speculating that Valve might keep rotating the collections in the Armory. This would be the ideal situation to keep the cash flow going, if Valve have their own monetary priorities in mind.
There have also been speculations that this new system is going to replace the previous case system implemented in Counter-Strike. This might help Valve avoid gambling bans in countries with stricter regulations. But there has been no confirmation on this yet, and Valve has not hinted that the case system is going anywhere anytime soon.
Community Backlash Over Armory Pass Update
Despite Valve’s clarification, CS2's Armory Update has faced significant backlash from the community. Players accuse Valve of prioritizing profits over user experience, labeling the update a "cash grab." The Steam review score for CS2 dropped from “Very Positive” to “Mostly Positive” shortly after the update.
Additionally, performance issues like FPS drops have been reported, with some linking them to new cosmetic charms. Valve’s minor patches haven’t fully addressed these concerns.
Sarzi's inquiry has highlighted significant concerns within the CS2 community, from the uncertainty around Armory items to criticisms of the exploitative pass system. While Valve has offered some clarification, the ongoing backlash over player spending and performance issues remains unresolved. As players speculate about future changes, Valve's next steps will be crucial in restoring trust and addressing the community's frustrations.
