VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff: Schedule, Format, and Opening Matchups
While the year draws to a close, players, teams, and all things VALORANT are gearing up for the start of the VCT in 2025. To begin the new year in style, the VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff will see the return of some of our favorite teams and players to the stage on January 15th.
At the first VCT EMEA tournament of 2025, all 12 participating teams will compete for the VCT EMEA Kickoff trophy, as well as a chance to represent the region at the first international tournament of the year, the VCT Masters Bangkok.
VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff: Format Recap
All Kickoff tournaments will see revamped formats across the VCT in the new year. As opposed to 2024, where competing teams were split into three groups with a short playoff bracket at the end, the VCT EMEA Kickoff in 2025 will feature no group stage whatsoever.
Instead, the tournament will consist of a double elimination bracket, offering more high-stakes action straight out of the gates. In the end, the two teams facing each other at the Kickoff tournament's grand final will be the two EMEA representatives at Bangkok.
Seeding for the Kickoff tournament bracket has been determined using the teams' performance during the VCT 2024. The top 4 teams in the region in 2024 will be rewarded by receiving a bye into the second round of the bracket, making their roads to Bangkok potentially a little shorter.
Here is what the Kickoff bracket will look like:
VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff Opening Matchups
To kick things off at the first VCT tournament of the year for the EMEA region, the Kickoff bracket will begin with the following matchups.
- BBL Esports vs GIANTX [January 15th, 6 pm CET]
- Karmine Corp vs Natus Vincere [January 15th, 9 pm CET]
- Team Liquid vs KOI [January 16th, 6 pm CET]
- Apeks vs Gentle Mates [January 16th, 9 pm CET]
Meanwhile, Fnatic, Team Vitality, FUT Esports and Team Heretics will face the winner of each opening match, respectively, in the second round of the tournament thanks to finishing as the four best teams in the VCT EMEA in 2024.
Now more than ever, teams will be incentivized to put up strong showings during the course of the year in the VCT, as a good standing can make the road to the first international tournament of the year all the easier by skipping a round of games altogether.
VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff Matchup Previews and Predictions
From new teams to completely overhauled rosters, the VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff tournament promises the return of some exciting VALORANT as well as fresh new storylines and the potential rise of brand new stars.
*Bolded names indicate new additions to the roster/league
BBL Esports vs GIANTX [January 15th, 6 pm CET]
BBL Esports roster: LewN / Jamppi / PROFEK / sociablEE / chiwa
GIANTX roster: Cloud / purp0 / runneR / tomaszy / westside
Both BBL and GIANTX will be heading into the new year with revamped rosters. On the side of BBL, not a single name survived their 2024 year, which means GIANTX are coming into the opening match of the Kickoff tournament with the very slight advantage of whatever synergy remains between Cloud and purp0.
This being the very first time that BBL move away from a full Turkish roster in the VCT, as well as it being the debut of Jamppi as an official in-game leader, too many questions plague the team heading into Kickoff. While BBL could end up developing a good system moving forward, we expect that to take time, meaning GIANTX will be favored going into their matchup.
Karmine Corp vs Natus Vincere [January 15th, 9 pm CET]
Karmine Corp roster: marteen / avez / Elite / SUYGETSU / Saadhak
Natus Vincere roster: ANGE1 / Shao / hiro / koalanoob / Ruxic
Again, two rosters with a long road ahead of them in terms of developing synergy and an identity. While ANGE1 and Shao have only played together across their entire VALORANT careers, the truth is that the NAVI project has been in decline in recent years. The question, then, has to be asked, do ANGE1 and Shao still have what it takes?
KC had a decent showing in 2024, winning the VCT 2024 EMEA Kickoff tournament before falling short in Stage 1 and Stage 2. Now, the addition of a legend of the Americas in Saadhak should breathe new life into the team, making Karmine Corp the favorites to take the win away from NAVI.
Team Liquid vs KOI [January 16th, 6 pm CET]
Team Liquid roster: nAts / Keiko / kamo / kamyk / paTiTek
KOI roster: Sheydos / GRUBINHO / Filu / flyuh / soulcas
With nAts moving over to the in-game leader role and Keiko expected to be playing controllers for Team Liquid moving forward, the team's opening match against KOI may tell us a lot about what we can expect from TL in 2025.
At the time, we're not convinced that KOI's new roster represents an improvement over the 2024 iteration and their disappointing showings. If nAts in-game leading style works for Team Liquid, we do not expect KOI to walk away the victors in this match.
Apeks vs Gentle Mates [January 16th, 9 pm CET]
Apeks roster: AvovA / hype / MOLSI / ? / florescent
Gentle Mates roster: kAdavra / Click / Minny / RobbieBk / Zyppan
She's done it. The first Game Changers player to make the move over to Tier-1 VALORANT is set to debut at the VCT 2025 EMEA Kickoff, as all eyes will be on florescent and how she will settle in with Apeks. Though the team has yet to announce its full roster for the new year, excitement is already at an all-time-high for the newly ascended team.
Meanwhile, the Gentle Mates have built a roster with little Tier-1 experience themselves. That being said, names like Click have been putting up staggering numbers in the Challengers leagues, and could well walk into the VCT ready to make a name for themselves.
Ultimately, the addition of Zyppan might bring enough experience to the Gentle Mates to balance out their youth and kick off the year strong with a win over Apeks.
