Worlds 2022, by the numbers: 12 stats from Play-Ins, Groups and Knockouts
With the 2022 League of Legends World Championship completed — and LCK underdog DRX crowned world champion — here are 12 cool and cumulative stats from a tournament many fans are calling the best in "League of Legends" esports history.
Times DRX Pyosik played Kindred: DRX jungler Hong "Pyosik" Chang-hyeon is a self-described Kindred superfan, and after he went 4-0 on the pick at Worlds 2022, The Eternal Hunters will almost certainly be getting the Worlds skin treatment.
FNC Upset's KDA over 11 games: Star botlaner Elias "Upset" Lipp may reportedly be without a team at the moment, but his performance on Fnatic at Worlds 2022 was stellar. The Swede notched an 8.8 KDA, the best among players with more than two games; new FNC support Rúben "Rhuckz" Barbosa went 0/0/22 in his two games and had the highest KDA of the tourney with 22. As for teams that made it to Knockouts, T1's superstar botlane of Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong and support Ryu "Keria" Min-seok led with 7.62 and 7.58 KDAs in their 18 games.
Champions played by DRX BeryL: DRX support and gacha game enthusiast Cho "BeryL" Geon-hee played 13 champions in 26 games, more than any other player. Evil Geniuses support Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme and Royal Never Give Up support Shi "Ming" Sen-Ming each had 11 unique picks in their 16 and 19 games, respectively.
Players who picked Sejuani: The Fury of the North was played in two roles — jungle and top — and by more unique players than any other pick, barely beating out Maokai's 23 pickers across three roles — jungle, top and support.
Games played by DRX: While DRX's toplaner Hwang "Kingen" Seong-hoon, midlaner Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo, botlaner Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu and support BeryL each played all of DRX's 26 games at Worlds, DRX's junglers split time, giving substitute jungler Juhan three games played and starter Pyosik 23. The teams with the next most games played were fellow Play-In graduates Royal Never Give Up with 19 and Worlds Final opponent T1 with 18.
Times Sylas won: The Unshackled was the most reliable champion at Worlds 2022, winning 33 of his 50 games for a 66% win percentage. However, two champions with more than five picks had him beat, albeit with smaller sample sizes: Yone, who had a 7-1 record for 87.5%, and Yuumi, whose 12-2 record was good for 85.7%.
Games played by the LCS and LEC: The two major Western regions played just 68 games at Worlds with eight teams in attendance, while nine minor region teams played 70 games. The LCK and LPL combined for 112 across eight teams, giving their teams an average of 14 games played, which dwarfs the west's average of 8.5 and the minor region's average of 7.8.
DRX Pyosik's win percentage: While not as high as the 100% win rates of FNC Rhuckz (2 games) and Beyond Gaming substitute toplaner Wu "Liang" Liang-Te (1 game), DRX Pyosik's win percentage was 0.8 percentage points more than the rest of his team's record, due to sub jungler Juhan losing one of his three games.
Champions contested: On Day 2 of the Worlds 2022 Group Stage, the tournament broke the Worlds record for most contested picks with the 95th pick. Now that the tourney is over, 109 champions were either picked or banned; that's 67.3% of the game's full roster.
Times Aatrox was picked: Aatrox became one of the most highly contested Worlds picks of all time this year with a 98.4% pick-ban percentage. Had he been picked in two more games in the Play-In stage, he would have joined 2019 Pantheon, 2016 Nidalee, 2015 Gangplank, 2014 Alistar and 2014 Zed as the only champions with 100% presence at a World Championship.
RNG GALA's average CS per game: Despite being swept in Quarterfinals, star Royal Never Give Up botlaner Chen "GALA" Wei had the highest average CS per game with 329.32, as well as the highest average CS per minute with 10.22. Those numbers top all players at Worlds 2022, not just players above a certain number of games played.
Total peak viewership for Worlds 2022: Riot Games has announced that Worlds 2022's peak concurrent viewer number — which was hit during Game 2 of the Worlds Final between T1 and DRX — was the highest in "League of Legends" esports history.
