8 matches between 16 teams have concluded on Day 2 of the Swiss Stage in Worlds 2023! Here is how the matches went.

TL vs NRG - Remember me?

TL vs NRG Draft

NRG dominated Team Liquid Honda in the fight to end the day 1-1. They drafted a tanky front line team composition that gave Cristian "Palafox" Palafox and Victor "FBI" Huang the space to poke and kill TL's members. Due to NRG target banning Eain "APA" Stearns, he decided to play Syndra. This is surprising since in his career he has a 50% win rate whereas on champions like Ahri and Cassiopeia, he has +60%. Sean "Yeon" Sung and Hong "Pyosik" Chang-Hyeon were able to get their main carry champions this draft as well.

In this match, Juan Arturo "Contractz" Garcia camped mid lane leading APA to die multiple times in the early game. APA throughout the match had very poor damage which left Yeon to do the main damage dealing. Pyosik also tried his best to deal damage however, due to the nature of Viego, Pyosik can only succeed if the chain reaction of kills starts which rarely occurred. NRG's game plan executed very well and they swiftly dominated TL.

NRG destroyed their nexus with a gold lead of 12.3k at a game time of 31:38 minutes. NRG and TL will start Day 3 as 1-1 and 0-2, respectively.

C9 vs LNG - Blind Monk

C9 vs LNG Draft

Suzhou LNG Esports took over their match versus Cloud9 with Lee "Tarzan" Seung-Yong's incredible outplays. C9 drafted a highly standard team composition playing front-to-back or even finding a pick onto one of LNG's carries. LNG drafted a more aggressive team composition with Tarzan finding great Dragon's Rage angles and Lee "Scout" Ye-Chan dishing damage while remaining in the safety of his team. C9 made a valiant effort in trying to create a lead for themselves in the early game. Unfortunately, they made mechanical errors here and there which compounded into a loss for them. LNG played nearly perfect as each member of their team seemed very strong and was a high threat for C9.

LNG ended the game with a gold lead of 7.3k at a game time of 32:10. C9 and LNG will start Day 3 as 1-1 and 2-0, respectively.

BDS vs MAD - The Lions

BDS vs MAD Draft

MAD Lions dominated Team BDS in their fight to end 1-1 on Day 2. Javier "Elyoya" Prades was able to punish Théo "Sheo" Borile when he was caught in his jungle. From there, MAD began their momentum into spiraling the game to their favor. Zdravets "Hylissang" Galabov found multi-member Magnet Storms on BDS and Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság had great feather recalls to follow up on. With a strong bot lane and a dominating top side, it was only a matter of minutes for MAD to secure their game after slowly taking objectives away.

MAD beat BDS with a gold lead of 10.7k at a game time of 31:47. BDS and MAD will start Day 3 as 0-2 and 1-1, respectively.

FNC vs GAM - Orange and Black

FNC vs GAM Draft

Fnatic took over their game vs GAM Esports and ended victorious. With two standard team compositions for this worlds meta, the game came down to satisfying win conditions and each member's individual performance. FNC in all lanes dominated over GAM. In the early game, however, GAM were able to disrupt FNC's early tempo with kill pressure and trading summoner spells. Unfortunately for GAM, it was not enough to stop FNC's victory.

FNC destroyed GAM's nexus with a gold lead of 9.8k at a game time of 24:04 minutes. FNC and GAM will start Day 3 as 1-1 and 0-2, respectively.

GEN vs T1 - All-in

GEN vs T1 Draft

Gen.G defeated T1 after a somewhat close game blew up at the end. In GEN's final two draft picks, they committed to high damage and aggressive playstyle champions. With Rumble added to the mix, GEN's win condition was to kill T1's members fast before their DPS was able to kick in. On the other hand, T1's win condition was to control the fight as much as possible to let Lee "Faker" Sang-Hyeok and Lee "Gumayusi" Min-Hyeon deal their damage and win their fights slow and steady.

Moon "Oner" Hyeon-Joon made amazing headway against Han "Peanut" Wang-Ho with a couple invades in the early game as well as solo kills. Faker also was able to find solo kills for himself with the recently buffed Orianna. However, Choi "Doran" Hyeon-Joon became a menace as his high damage kit was able to quickly burst down any champion even if they had magic resistance. After two very well fought fights in the later stages of the game, Gen.G secured themselves powerful objectives. They then defeated T1 with a gold lead of 8.3k at a game time of 29:38 minutes. GEN and T1 end Day 2 as 2-0 and 1-1, respectively.

WBG vs G2 - Big Game Hunters

WBG vs G2 Draft

G2 Esports were able to end victorious in their match against WeiboGaming FAW AUDI. G2 had a strong start to the game but that ended swiftly after WBG found multiple picks in team fights. WBG was also able to stack dragons without letting G2 take any. With WBG having Mountain Soul and a lead, it was almost certain that they would have won. That was until G2 started winning fights, although barely. Every fight in the last stage of the game were very close, but with WBG base open, G2 was able to place pressure on elder drake and ending of their nexus.

After a dominating team fight, G2 destroyed WBG nexus with a gold lead of 300 at a game time of 38:22 minutes.  G2 and WBG end Day 2 as 2-0 and 1-1, respectively.

JDG vs BLG - Pushing the Tempo

JDG vs BLG Draft

Beijing JDG Intel Esports Club defeated Bilibili Gaming Pingan Bank during a one-sided match to end Day 2 2-0. Ding "knight" Zhou made a lead for himself in a bot lane 4v4 fight. He and his team utilized this lead to press where it hurt BLG. They set up bot dives and invaded BLG's jungle multiple times. This led to Park "Ruler" Jae-Hyuk creating his own lead after securing a double kill in a bot dive. BLG made a valiant effort to slow down JDG's momentum but came up short. JDG dominated BLG with a gold lead of 12.3k at a game time of 24:35 minutes. JDG and BLG will start Day 3 as 2-0 and 1-1, respectively.

DK vs KT - Slow and Steady

DK vs KT Draft

Kt Rolster ended victorious in their match against Dplus KIA. KT and DK were near even in the early parts of the game. However, this slowly unraveled to become a KT domination from objective fights after objective fights. When the fourth dragon was slain, KT destroyed DK multiple times and succeeded in ruining their base. Kim "Aiming" Ha-Ram and Moon "Cuzz" Woo-Chan had a strong performance having great synergistic playmaking. KT finally ended the game with a gold lead of 10.6k at a game time of 31:57 minutes. DK and KT will start Day 3 as 0-2 and 1-1, respectively.
