Worlds 2024 Grand Final: Bilibili Gaming vs T1 Schedule, Preview and Predictions
Worlds 2024 is drawing to a close, and what better way to finish than with another clash of the titans between the LPL and the LCK. Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and T1 are set to face off for the final match of the year, where the winner will walk away with the Worlds 2024 trophy and their very own chapter in the League of Legends history books.
As they have an incredible habit of doing, T1 has grown into an untamable beast this year at Worlds, despite the legendary team's struggles through most of 2024.
BLG, in turn, will come into the Worlds 2024 Grand Final ready to prove they will not be just another prey in the LPL Killers' path. Can BLG make the LPL proud by becoming the first all-Chinese team to win Worlds? To do so, they will need to get through one final hurdle, the 5-time World Champions of Faker and T1.
Let's take a look at everything we should expect from the conclusion to an exciting Worlds 2024 tournament when BLG and T1 take each other on this Saturday, November 2nd at 4 pm CEST.
Worlds 2024 Grand Final Preview: BLG vs T1
When BLG and T1 take each other on with the 2024 Worlds trophy on the line, it will mark the fourth time these two teams face each other in a series this year.
BLG currently holds a 2-1 lead over T1 in their head-to-head for 2024. As the LPL team is well aware, however, people only remember the champions in the end.
BLG - An international thorn in their side
Coming into Worlds as the LPL's first seed, there is no doubt BLG has had an incredible year in 2024. The team has cleaned house in the LPL, not only winning every single split, but looking relatively unfazed doing it too.
Over in China, no team has been able to match BLG all year long. And yet, the team consistently struggled to replicate that form on the international stage throughout 2024.
During the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), BLG put up a strong run after defeating T1 not once, but twice in best-of-5 (bo5) series throughout the tournament. Having reached the Grand Final of MSI, another South Korean giant stood in their way - only this time it was Gen.G.
BLG undoubtedly put up a strong performance at MSI, but simply never managed to get past the Gen.G hurdle to claim the trophy for the LPL.
The team got another shot at international gold during the inaugural League of Legends Esports World Cup, and looked poised to make this one count. As it would turn out, however, BLG would draw T1 for their opening game of the tournament.
Despite a very competitive series, T1 would walk away the victors before running away with the EWC trophy in the end. As for BLG, the team was forced to see their international dreams crushed yet again at the hands of a South Korean side.
Coming into the Worlds 2024 Grand Final, BLG will surely be relishing a chance at revenge against T1, this time on an even bigger stage, and with the biggest trophy in the game on the line.
Faker and T1 - The bane of the LPL
Outrageous as it may sound, in his 11 years playing for T1 (then known as SK Telecom T1 K or simply SK Telecom T1), Faker has never lost a bo5 series against an LPL team at Worlds.
The LPL has sent some of the most vicious teams in the esport's history to Worlds throughout the years, and yet, Faker and his team have managed to create a 9-0 record against the region in Bo5 series at Worlds. That means that no LPL team has managed to win a Worlds tournament if they faced Faker in the Knockout Stage. It comes as no surprise, then, that T1 have been dubbed 'the LPL Killers'.
Now, at the Grand Final of Worlds 2024, BLG stands on the brink not only of securing the coveted Worlds trophy, but also breaking a curse that has stood for 11 years. A win on Saturday would be nothing short of historic for the LPL as a whole.
“This time, I’m going to be the one to hold this responsibility, to represent the LPL for the trophy.” - BLG Bin
If BLG defeat T1 to win the tournament, they wouldn't just be proving that their South Korean nemeses are human after all, but they would also become the very first all-Chinese team to ever win a League of Legends World Championship. While the LPL has won Worlds several times in the past, it has always been done fielding South Korean players on their rosters.
Now, BLG has a shot not just at a Worlds trophy, but at being immortalized in their region as the greatest Chinese team to ever play the game. To do so, BLG must simply meet the LPL Killers on the rift and live to tell the tale.
The Jax card - Shutting Bin down
Across BLG's 15 total games played at Worlds 2024, Bin has only played 4 different champions. Those are Gnar, Rumble, K'Sante, and Jax. Throughout the tournament, Bin has picked The Grandmaster at Arms in over 50% of his team's games. That is a total of 8 Jax picks across 15 games.
After 8 games on the champion in the tournament, Bin has only lost one game on the pick. Coming into the Grand Final of Worlds 2024 with an incredible 87.5% winrate on Jax, it will be interesting to see whether T1 have something planned to shut the pick down, or if the team simply opts to ban the champion altogether and spare themselves the headache. After all, Bin's domination on Jax isn't just a Worlds 2024 phenomenon.
For the greatest top lane player in the world, Jax has been a staple pick throughout his career. Not only is Jax Bin's most played champion all-time, he also holds a brutal 71% winrate on the pick for his entire career.
After substantial buffs to Jax during Worlds patch, the meta seemed perfectly suited for Bin to come into the tournament and dominate the opposition. And dominate he has.
With T1 having won the coin toss and chosen blue side for the opening game of the series, the team could well opt to play with fire by having Zeus steal the pick away for himself. Beware, however, Bin's experience on the champion likely indicates a similar experience on how to counter it.
A clash of styles to end Worlds 2024
In true LPL fashion, BLG has favored an explosive across to the game at Worlds 2024. The style became even further pronounced with XUN joining the starting roster in place of Wei after the team's slow start to the World Championship.
XUN has long favored fighters and other aggressive picks in the jungle that allow him to set the pace of the game from very early on. The style is one BLG feel comfortable on, being well versed in the art of true LPL mayhem.
"I think that XUN has a good mindset in games and he's really good at playing fighters. But Wei is more, like, he can directly control the team as a leader." -BLG ON
Interestingly, T1's Oner has put up a similar champion pool at Worlds 2024 to that of XUN. The goal, however, has been slightly different. T1's approach to the game has been incredibly methodical, almost always garnering leads through superior macro rather than outplaying their opponents head on. With incredibly precise timings and map movement, Oner has often served as the perfect facilitator for T1's playstyle.
With XUN leading the early game, BLG are likely to come out swinging right off the bat against T1. It will largely fall on Oner to ensure his laners are well covered early on against any and all of BLG's attempts at creating a numbers advantage.
Accessing the emptiness machine
If T1 show up laser-focused to their Worlds 2024 Grand Final bout vs BLG, it's hard to see how the team's experience and level-headedness does not shine through in the end.
After all, this is only the very first time anyone on BLG not named Bin has made it to a Worlds final. For T1, in turn, the match will mean a third consecutive Worlds final reached with the current roster.
BLG will face an immense challenge in maintaining their composure in the Worlds 2024 Grand Final against T1. With the atmosphere expected to be electrifying and the stakes at an all-time high, BLG will need to operate like a machine in order to stay cool and collected for a shot at denying Faker and T1 a fifth Worlds title.
