At the VCT Pacific week 7, we saw ZETA DIVISION taking on Paper Rex in a best-of-three series. Despite their strong performance, ZETA lost to Paper Rex. After the game, Strafe interviewed ZETA’s superstar controller Shota “SugarZ3ro” Watanabe. In an exclusive one-on-one interview, ZETA SugarZ3ro talks about the game, individual performance, superweek fixtures and more.

Q. How are you feeling about the game and the results? What were the crucial mistakes made during the game?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “They were very strong, I will switch my mind and try my best next time. (About mistakes) Nothing especially”

Q. ZETA plays really methodically and slowly. That led to the time running out, especially today on Split. Do you think you’d need to address that?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “Sometimes playing slow is good. But today, it backfired. So it might be a challenge but usually it is not”

Q. You made an impressive comeback on the second map, but couldn’t close it. Why was that?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “I don’t know”

Q. Do you think Paper Rex’s off-meta composition caught you guys off-guard?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “It caught us off-guard. It was not something we were prepared for”

Q. How’d you rate your performance in the league and today?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “Throughout the league, I have been doing 70% to 80% of power but today I didn’t play as well. So today I was at 50% - 60% of my abilities.”

Q. What do you think you guys need to work on going into the superweek?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “We do a lot of ad-lib stuff, we need to work on that”

Q. You’d face T1 and GenG. First of all, what are your thoughts on the teams? Who do you think will be tougher to face GenG or T1?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “They are very organized teams so we want to prepare a lot of contest to those and go fight them. Looking at the score, GenG looks like a tough opponent. But since we all are developing teams, we don’t know. However if we can condition ourselves and face them in a proper way, we can beat them both”

Q. You are the “ultimate” Japanese team in the Pacific. Do you think that adds pressure on you to qualify for Tokyo? If yes How do you handle it?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “Yes, compared to the other Master, we have additional pressure. We accept the pressure and we play”

Q. Which team do you want to face the most in the playoffs?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “Any team other that DRX and Paper Rex”

Q. Is there an international team you look forward to facing at Masters Tokyo?

ZETA SugarZ3ro: “NRG”

ZETA Division will face T1 and GenG in the VCT Pacific Superweek. They currently are a game short of strengthening their playoff spot and will be looking forward to beating the opponents to secure the Ticket to Tokyo.
